Saint Reagan doubled the debt, increased deficits, and dramatically increased the size of the federal government. He also signed gun-control bills and signed the bill raising the drinking age to 21.
Ronnie loved amnesty too but it hasn't impacted his sainthood among the majority of cons.
Here's an example of a disagreement I've had. I would be all for legalization of ALL drugs, like any good libertarian. But in the context of Obamacare, where I as a taxpayer I'm on the hook for health consequences of drug use, I can't support legalization. When we had our pot legalization initiative on the ballot here, I was a no vote.
To paraphrase Robert Higgs, if we have a welfare state, we must have a nanny state to go with it. The same applies to open immigration, btw, which most libertarians favor.
It's funny, I always said that I agree with libertarians on 90%, but have often had a tougher time getting civil discussion from them than from liberals, with whom I [u]disagree[/i] 90%.
I had a good friend who was very active in the state LP here. We would often end up in a shouting match. In particular, he would always interrupt mid-sentence, which I HATE. I gave up trying to talk politics with him.
Just my experience, YMMV.
The LP is as libertarian as Nancy Pelosi. It has been completely corrupted.
Interrupting mid-sentence is an individual personality flaw, and it is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Domestic spending actually slightly declined (-1.4%) under Reagan, according to Cato economist Steve Slivinski. He did greatly increase military spending, but he got a pretty good return for it, namely the end of the cold war, and the liberation of millions in Poland, the Baltics, Hungary, etc. I'd say it was worth it. Do you say otherwise?
I get the premise of AnCap but I don't believe that people could function under the system. They are too programmed.
Well, at least fight the system.
And pretend you and your kids are sex offenders: keep them 500 yards away from all public schools.
That's where the programming is planted and grown. Next thing you know you've killed 500K Iraq kids but it's technically "collateral damage" on the scorecard.
When a government officials says "PANIC!" you gotta panic.
I'm going with it being an emergency.
In all seriousness you're not far off. You need a weekend of Rothbard and some weed. It may do the trick.
I don't panic about sh*t unless a loved one is having a medical emergency then I am pretty useless. My hubby has to take over. God forbid he has one.
