This is a huge problem for the GOP as many of the older conservative hate mongers are closer to death too.

the referenced study by Pew and the referenced Salon article are over a year old. May 2017.

Partisan Identification Is 'Sticky,' but About 10% Switched Parties Over the Past Year | Pew Research Center

a more recent reuters survey march 2018:

The online survey of more than 16,000 registered voters ages 18 to 34 shows their support for Democrats over Republicans for Congress slipped by about 9 percentage points over the past two years, to 46 percent overall. And they increasingly say the Republican Party is a better steward of the economy.

democrats still lead considerably with millennials, but the democrats are losing millennials while republican support by millennials has remained study, according to reuters survey.

Its terrible to rely on skin colors, age, religion etc for support. That means no change is on the horizon for the 99% as the parties simply divide up the electorate along various identify profiles. If a party get too many of one group, the corporate media (their owners are the biggest donors to both parties) will simply start alienating larger sections of another identity group (perhaps atheists or Asians or whatever) to push more people into the arms of the opposing party in order to keep things even.
