Continuing on what Lord Squidworth was saying- from the article posted by the OP, it is stated

Quote:
"This is the ongoing difficulty of employers finding qualified workers. The disparity between job openings and hiring is over a million again for the second month in a row," said Jessica Rabe, co-founder of DataTrek Research. "In terms of wages, it's hard to increase wages when you don't have the proper qualifications for a worker to fill that role."

St. Louis has had a sizable gap between number of jobs and skilled candidates for some years now- and it isn't as cut and dry as the OP and others make it out to be. It isn't surprising that this is now a nationwide issue.

While the number of job openings is an undeniable positive, the massive setback in that there aren't enough skilled or qualified applicants is the result of a larger problem, which is that for a lot of low/unskilled workers, higher educational attainment, including in the trades, seems out of reach.

The result is hopelessness and despair, and all of the nasty things that go with that: drugs, political extremism, toxic forms of religion, and so forth.

The Democrats can complain about Trump all they want, but the truth of the matter is this: Trump is in the White House because the Democrats abandoned ordinary Americans in favor of neoliberal economic ideology.
Since the late 70’s more jobs have been eliminated due to technology substitution and custom industrial robotics than offshore.

Today’s custom industrial robotics are being designed to compete with the lowest cost global labor.

Nothing partisan about it.

It's fun watching libs trying to poke bitter little holes in all the good news. Obama could have done the same thing Trump did to free up the economy but it didn't fit his ideology and you libs all bought his lies and excuses. Now the country is booming and you hate Trump more than ever as he shows what a failure Obama really was.

Around here the department store chain Kohls is already hiring for Christmas! They want employees for the back to school sales and are trying to lock them down for the holidays too. Amazing news.

"The jobs market has reached what should be some kind of inflection point: there are now more openings than there are workers.
April marked the second month in a row this historic event has occurred, and the gap is growing.
According to the monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released Tuesday, there were just shy of 6.7 million open positions in April, the most recent month for which data are available. That represented an increase of 65,000 from March and is a record.

The number of vacancies is pulling well ahead of the number the Bureau of Labor Statistics counts as unemployed. This year is the first time the level of the unemployed exceeded the jobs available since the BLS started tracking JOLTS numbers in 2000."

Trump did say he was going to be the jobs president. Another promise fulfilled!!
Breaking news to the OP: There have been more job openings than there have been hires since early 2015. Look at the chart of your own data series right here:

Article: https://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2...-april-to.html

This is yet another pathetic attempt by the Cultists to give Trump credit for a trend that began long before he was even elected.

Trumpets, once again, completely ignore any data that occurred before Trump was elected, and then they think that, somehow magically, everything drastically changed for the better after the election. Well, if you completely ignore every trend that began prior to the election, it's no wonder you might think that.

Actually, Trump told us on the campaign trail that all of the BLS numbers are phony. We're closer to 25-30% unemployment in this country at this point.

Exactly. The robots are replacing the line workers, but those robots still need humans to look after them. Issue is, those robots require human workers with new skill sets, skill sets workers are slow to acknowledge and attain, instead too busy hoping the old days return.

Not everyone sees the world through rose colored glasses. We're past the boom phase and are in the euphoria phase. There's only one phase that comes after that. Nothing can be done now to change it, but systemically we can use changes for the better of the future regardless of the next economic phase.

Job growth is 93 months old.

How do you take Obama out of the formula?

LOL.

Ok, so instead of forcing working class Americans to complete with Third World labor, we are forcing them to compete with robots that are even cheaper.

The end result is the same: the working class is pushed into minimum wage service jobs. Self-driving cars and trucks will only make the problem worse.

What’s your plan to solve this problem? Tax cuts?

Probably because "all the good news" is phony, just like it was under Obama (which Trump had the courage to say back then because he was an OUTSIDER -- but now he is an insider and claims all of the BLS numers are "real" simply because it makes him look good when he just said all those numbers were fake just two years ago). Which goes to show that Trump is the most morally bankrupt person to ever sit in the Oval Office, but this you already knew.

If you don't recall, during Obama's presidency, the U.S was still recovering from the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression, something that started during the Bush administration. Recovery from that mess would have taken years regardless of whether McCain or Obama was at the helm.

While I am not a Trump supporter, I do support the United States and everybody in it. Therefore, I want the government to succeed in doing what is in the best interests of our country, because I want our country as a whole to live up to its potential.

With that said, I would never follow a politician blindly, and it is healthy to critique and analyze what is being said on both sides of the political spectrum, in addition to pursuing the reasons behind statistics.

I was critical of a lot that happened during the Obama administration and didn't agree with all of his opinions and policies. Similarly, I'm not going to blindly follow this administration.

There's a word for those who follow a leader regardless.

Many retailers start seasonal hiring this time of year. That isn't amazing, it happens every year

Also, seasonal jobs are temporary and usually part time. The average hourly pay in retail is only $9.16- hardly a living wage in most areas of the country.

I would be far more impressed if you said a company was opening up in your town with hundreds of full time, permanent jobs paying well above a living wage, offering full benefits, great working conditions, etc.
