From what Ive seen of the job market around here, there are alot of jobs available, but a large majority of them are at places like Amazon distribution centers, order pickers and packers, unloading trucks by hand, moving boxes, warehouse work, etc.

They have a fairly high starting wage, but for some reason, they are ALWAYS hiring, (turnover is extremely high, especially for such a good company).

That really speaks volumes about a company if they cannot keep workers!

'Good jobs at good companies' are normally hard to get for a reason (people working there do not quit).

not my fault people made poor decisions. If you can't make enough now, learn something that will. Or get 2 jobs. Grousing on the internet serves no productive purpose.

"The jobs market has reached what should be some kind of inflection point: there are now more openings than there are workers.
April marked the second month in a row this historic event has occurred, and the gap is growing.
According to the monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released Tuesday, there were just shy of 6.7 million open positions in April, the most recent month for which data are available. That represented an increase of 65,000 from March and is a record.

The number of vacancies is pulling well ahead of the number the Bureau of Labor Statistics counts as unemployed. This year is the first time the level of the unemployed exceeded the jobs available since the BLS started tracking JOLTS numbers in 2000."

Trump did say he was going to be the jobs president. Another promise fulfilled!!

because people stopped looking for work during those years.

The unemployment rate has been steadily falling for 9 years. Donald Trump then inherited this falling unemployment rate and instantly took personal credit for lowering it.

Donald Trump became president on January 20 2017.

Jan 2017 unemployment- 4.8%
Feb 2017 unemployment- 4.7%

What policies did Donald Trump enact to lower unemployment from Jan-Feb 2017? (None, Trump inherited a falling unemployment rate)

Therein lies the problem.
I've seen some numbers that indicate all the taxpayer funded programs have become so generous, that people capable of work would rather live off the public dole than get out and work. They get housing, food, transportation, education, healthcare, utilities, etc., etc., etc.
Gone is public shame and a sense of personal responsibility, and instead has been replaced with a entitlement mentality, and/or justification based on grievance.
That along with generational dependency has created a permanent underclass. It is little wonder why they believe in socialism, and that is what the modern day Democrats are depending on. Why else would they be trying to eliminate our borders, and bring in uneducated and unskilled people.

On a side note, some people view working at McDonalds as a career, when it is only a entry level job. Sure you can climb the ladder and make more money, but a hamburger flipper who has no ambition, should not expect constant raises or starting salary to feed a family.

How many job functions are worth more?

Like most states, my state’s Minimum Wage is higher than the Federal Minimum Wage. Despite this, low skill, entry level positions have been offering $3- 6/ hr more and still cannot fill positions. This began in 2015.

For some, working low skill jobs is all they can do. It’s not about effort.

Used to be an elevator operator could earn enough to support a family in a very modest lifestyle by pushing elevator buttons. The masses were more capable of distinguishing between needs and wats back then. The operator also had a pension and retirement medical. Unions lifted the masses out of poverty and onto the lower rungs of middle economic class.

Unions peaked 65 years ago and participation has been declining ever since. Makes more business sense to offshore and/ or invest in technology/ robotics than pay the so- called living wage.

Why pay an experienced accountant $x to do your taxes when you can download tax preparation software for $y and DIY? Why pay a secretary $X when employees can DIY? Why pay a bank teller $X when you can sign up for Direct Deposit and use an ATM in the unlikely event you need cash? Why pay your Carrier employee $25/hr, plus benefits when someone in Mexico will do the job for $5/ hr with no benefits and Mexico has more free- trade agreements with the rest of the world than any other country.

What might have been the Carrier’s employee’s Wage/ Benefit, in absence of collective bargaining? Why do people defend the US Carrier employee while looking down their nose at someone working for substantially less in a restaurant or retail, despite both jobs are low skill?

It’s curious how so many have no issue with Federal actions to protect US jobs that mostly rely on collective bargaining while condemning collective bargaining.

It’s also curious that some are over the top, ga-ga about Trump and ignore that most Trump products are made offshore so Trump Org reaps more profit. That Trump Org is not a publicly- traded company does not mean they don’t have the same goals - increase share holder value. In the case of a privately held company, shareholders at Trump Org are family. You can’t buy a piece of the action.

You can however, buy cheap Ivanka sandals made in the third world at Walmart or a different Invanka sandal, also made in the third world, for $250 at a high end store.

FIFY.

We need people with skills, not just a million more illegal migrant fruit pickers.
