O.P.'s article is a lame attempt to trivialize Ocasio-Cortez's victory. Apparently the right wing doesn't want to admit that democratic socialism is gaining traction and popularity among people, particularly among the under-40 crowd.
Time to sober up.

give the girl credit, she got out and knocked on doors, and made the rounds and made herself known, up close and personal. i may not agree with her politics, but she got the job done where a seasoned politician didnt. kudos to her for winning an uphill battle.

So why isn’t she advocating that people can follow the same trajectory as herself . Through hard work etc ?

Many would consider her a success ... but she didn’t need a socialist government..

It’s like when Mark Zuckerberg is a self made billionaire but thinks other people need universal income ... no not everyone will be a billionaire , which I know is what people would say .. but there are steps one can take .
But then we hear the excuses ..

Its more like left leaning people recognize that useless platitudes are not going to solve the issue of poverty. Could some people start a business sure however what you are leaving out is most businesses fail within the first three years so you are being dishonest and pretending like this is some silver bullet to solve poverty.

More like...

Socialism is there to pick up where Capitalism fails.... and where exactly that fails? The greed driven by a capitalist system which promotes going after everyone's own self-interest rather than the general welfare of a given society.

Wonder why we have "public" services (i.e. police, fire, parks, utilities, etc...)? Because that's where capitalism absolutely FAILS. You think a for-profit police or fire dept to protect yourself will be "cheap"? Lol... maybe if you're Taylor Swift, sure. Don't be that idiot complaining when a disaster hits and prices of essential products like water and gas shoot up through the roof. Without regulation, it's a simple you pay you get it, if you can't, too bad find a better job.

Get it through your head, pure capitalism isn't coming back, because it has been tried... try the Great Depression, see how that turned out. You were born an era too late. Capitalism needs regulation for the social order of society. And in cases where regulations can't fix some issue with society, then socialism will have to take over to fix it. Could be public housing, hospitals, job training (schools), the job itself, etc...

Here is my take on this. I'm from the Bronx, but I don't live in Ocasio's district. Ocasio's District is very diverse. For one you have Greeks and Egyptians in Astoria Queens, out of town white folks who can not find jobs in Middle America and had to move to places like Astoria Queens or Sunnyside Queens to live. You have housing projects like Castle HIll Pjs where the population is made up of Black Americans, you have South Asian immigrants in Parkchester, than you have Italians, Puerto Ricans and Irish and Throgs Neck and Country Club Section of the Bronx, College Point Queens is mostly Italians, Elmhurst mostly Hispanic Immigrants. Ocasio had a small turn out. I don't know who voted her in. Maybe the white liberals who left middle America for NYC voted her in. Astoria Queens has some of the largest concentration of middle American liberals who moved to NYC in the past decade. Or maybe it was the black Americans who make up 10 percent of the district. Maybe its the Puerto Ricans who have stranglehold on Bronx politics. I really cant say if it was Socialism or Race that caused her to win.

Well, the Republicans sure aren't finding ways to pay for all that stuff they want - they just borrow the stuff, cut taxes, and stick the bill with everyone else.

Very true and that is one of the main reasons she was elected. hard work and Crowley taking his election for granted. He was busy posturing for his house leadership role and thought the money would get him elected, outspent her something like 10 to 1. Also the demographics of his district has changed, people are reading too much into her views. She is a very talented and engaging speaker, that went over well with the electorate.
