Seattle recently became the latest major city to enact a sweetened beverage tax. In response to the new levy, some retailers have calculated how much of the price is due to the tax, and customers are reeling from sticker shock. One local reporter found that the tax added $10.34 to a case
Good lord thats more than the retailer, supplier and producer all make. Darn those greedy C̶E̶O̶'̶S̶ politicians!

Many people are likely to avoid the tax by traveling to other untaxed locations to purchase groceries. Costco tells its customers about locations outside the city that are not subject to the beverage tax. One customer told KIRO, a local news station, that she would go to the location in a nearby town. People will undoubtedly follow her lead, so the tax will have limited success in its health-related goals while also harming local businesses and failing to generate revenue.
good for Costco, but too bad for the little guy with one location.

If you think we can be taxed out of obesity, you better reevaluate. It's the wrong approach to the problem, and in 20-30 years we will look back at how silly we were.
At $10.34 of taxes per case, there's some people out there right now with some really wide open eyes saying "Wow! What's the next thing that's bad for us that we can tax the hell out of???"

Wrong.
Anything that allows busybodies (like self-decribed Cheeto-junkie, Michael Bloomberg) to decide what others eat, is a BAD thing.
