Ridiculous laws means this guy is being heavily penalized for defending himself.

Jeffrey Sumpter, 21, was attacked by three juveniles at the Dunkin' Donuts where he worked in Norwalk, Connecticut, last October. On Monday he was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in jail because he decided to defend himself.

Nobody seems to dispute that Sumpter is not the aggressor here, but the victim. Three juveniles entered the bakery and attacked Sumpter. The fight spilled outside and Sumpter, who had a knife, stabbed one of his attackers.

The country has been seeing a tilt in favor of the law breakers where it is not their fault for the crimes they commit but societies and if they are black there is the whole issue of racism and the burden of slavery that has recently been reapplied to their shoulders.

I hoped that Trump was going to level the nation again where the criminals are the problem and their prey are the victims but I guess not.

I wonder if this 21 year old guy can prove that he was pulled, pushed or carried outdoors by his 3 attackers to give them enough room to really go to work on him? If so then maybe the jury would still see it as a case of defending himself?

What would you do if you were attacked by 3 indoors and the scuffle carried outdoors and then you find yourself in a fight for your very life and you are surrounded by 3 guys intent on beating you?

Let's hope this guy that was left with little choice but to use a knife, I wonder if it was one of those thin plastic ones for spreading cream cheese on a bagel or if it was a real knife, gets mercy from the jury and the judge.

The 3 attackers will probably get off with less time if any.

So we should all remember that if we are attacked on the street while visiting Conn. that we should accept the beating because the time in the hospital will be less then the time we could spend in jail if we defend ourselves.

This is so wrong but sadly typical.

That's because they have a "duty to retreat". This is why I support stand your ground laws.

Duty to retreat should only apply to the period before the engagement. Once you're attacked, all bets should be off and it is then fair game to defend yourself to the best of your abilities. Unfortunately, some lawmakers and prosecutors don't feel this way.

Every state should have Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine laws. Self-defense should never be prosecuted.

Even with stand your ground you have to pray you don't get a liberal jury if it goes to trial.

SCOTUS should strike down the “duty to retreat” as being inconsistent with the right to lfe.

Um did anyone bother reading the update? The thugs retreated and then the defender chased after them with the knife. He deserves to be locked up. Sadly this message will get lost in liberalism is killing America talking points. So much for the facts...
