The ER seems to be the plan for many who post here who are uninsured.
Some seem to have a perception that the ER will pick up the tab for their medical needs when push comes to shove.
Healthy people get Cancer. The cost for drugs is in the $10,000-30,000/ month range.
Healthy people have serious accidents.

The ACA is limited to the 10 Essential Healthcare benefits and eliminated discrimination against those with preexisting conditions, eliminated annual/ lifetime caps and capped annual out of pocket expenses for insured people. States remain the primary regulator of healthcare and no two states have the same regulations.
For example, some states allow insurers to charge a higher co-pay for orally administered chemo than intravenous chemo.
No two states mandate private insurers cover the same benefits, especially medications.
Prior to the ACA, some states allowed insurers to decline or limit benefits for any reason.
