Meanwhile, Trump by at least getting NK to the table...
That is not an accomplishment. The Norks have been dying to be seen as players on the world stage, the rest of the world has studiously and carefully avoided giving them that recognition without something tangible in return. Until now.
You know what happened in 1994, and in 2005, and in 2007? North Korea promised to denuclearize. You know what didn't happen? Denuclearization.

Trump did say nothing was guaranteed before he went in to the meeting.
And he said "There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea" after the meeting. I mean, these are his exact words.
Now, it turns out that the great dealmaker who came armed with all the status of the US Chief Executive office gave concessions and got bupkis in return.
He's not dealing with some Atlantic City contractor who can be browbeaten into taking a loss on some work done on a Trump casino. He's completely out of his depth.
When Trump meets with Putin will he go down in history or will he just go down?
He'll get to work on dismantling NATO. It's been the #1 item on Putin's wishlist for a long time now. (The Brits obligingly went to work on the EU.) I for one would not be the slightest bit surprised to see the word "Kaliningrad" pop up in the headlines within 3 months.
How exactly has he been successful? Have we lifted sanctions? No. Can we start joint training exercises with SK? Yes.
China received the political cover to reduce sanctions. Kim was legitimized through recognition as an equal to the President of the US on the world stage without acknowledgment of the atrocities his regime has committed. Our alliance with South Korea has been degraded due to unilateral military concessions to North Korea. Kim was provided with fodder for further propaganda to prop up his regime. He was absolutely successful.
I was skeptical about their intentions then as I am now. I think everyone needs to sit back and let this play out before declaring it a failure or a success.

I agree that we should all sit back, including Trump, instead of taking victory laps before he even knew the outcome. He has the mistaken notion that just because he is involved in something that it is immediately going to work out in his favor. And quickly. I think he's finding out he's not the CEO of the U.S.
Which, of course, is going to push the cackling among our resident Lefties in the "progressive" henhouse to new heights.
Trump has used the carrot up until now: maybe it's time to use a stick again.

We all knew (well, at least SOME of us who have our eyes open) that Trump would get snookered by Kim, and he is heading to another snookering with Putin. Both of these guys play people like a fiddle, and Trump isn't exactly what we might call smart or experienced. Bet Kim was laughing his butt off after Trump left.
Kim is butt-hurt that Trump won't sign onto a Munich-type appeasement deal the way Clinton did in 1994; Western aid first, then welshing on promises.
Trump said he would know in the first minute. And he came home and told everybody to sleep well.
From his tweets:
Just landed - a long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office. There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea. Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience. North Korea has great potential for the future!
Before taking office people were assuming that we were going to War with North Korea. President Obama said that North Korea was our biggest and most dangerous problem. No longer - sleep well tonight!
He also said before the summit that he did not think the problem would be solved on the first trip. Where were you on that?
His tweet comes across to me as subtle propaganda aimed at North Korea, not the US population. I think Trump is aware of the fact that Kim reads his tweets, and by painting a rosy picture of the summit meeting, he could potentially get Kim on his good side so that he is more willing to cooperate. Kim obviously (and predictably) had other intentions, and so now I think we will see Trump adjust his tactics accordingly.
