Trump truly did attempt to hijack the republican party, and he had enough simple-minded voters supporting him to do it.
Same here as well. If I were being honest, I probably always aligned more with local and state Republicans than the national GOP. Still, watching the GOP turn into the Party of Trump has been pretty disappointing.

The question is will the Democrats decide to behave rationally, maturely and responsibly for a change, or are they going to continue with their hysterical shrieking routine.

i really dont see kavanaugh getting more than 54 votes given the current atmosphere in the senate. he might get 55 or 56, but i think that is the limit. and it wouldnt matter who trump nominated, the democrats would block anyone, even thurgood marshall, if he were around for trump to nominate.

If Kavanaugh gets over 61 votes, that is a clear signal that the Democrat's #resistance is running out of steam just before the 2018 midterm elections.

It kind of makes sense. Two years of this has been beyond enough, especially for the Democrats in Congress. Trying to keep everyone in this state of perpetual hysteria is surely exhausting, not only for them, but for the American people as well.

61 votes. If Kavanaugh gets that or more, the #resistance is over. Mark it down.

I've been trying to do some research on this SCOTUS pick and haven't ran across anything that states he is or supports what you are claiming. Just wondering where you got all that info ?

!

I guess it was different when the Right Wingers refused to bring a proposed justice in for hearings and a vote? Just saying.....

This vote will be 50-49. One has to wonder what promise the dotard made to Kavanaugh. Maybe it simply was that he would nominate him if he promised to continue to vote along the lines of the President being above the law and therefore unlikely to support an impeachment vote. That was the position of Kavanugh with regard to Clinton. Donald knows he is going to be charged (probably as a Russian Agent) and will need every voice he can find to keep him from serving a life sentence...or worse (from his perspective).

A corollary was a statement by Leon Trotsky when someone told him they were not interested in politics, and didn't want to have anything to do with it. Trotsky replied, 'you may not be interested in politics, but politics is interested in you.'

That's the old system.

The new system is no new justices during an election year.

My sympathies hearken back to the days of FDR when generally most people in both parties thought abortion was wrong and also that Democrats came to see government could be a positive force for good.

I believe strongly in national health care (Medicare for all would be sweet) and social security and I don't think (from what I have read) that Kavanaugh is a big threat to those programs.

I see that the recent tax policies based upon 'trickle down' economics are damaging to the economic well being of the ordinary working people, and the wealth and earnings gap is getting much worse. Kavanaugh and I may disagree on this.

As for gay marriage, as far as I am concerned the state should refrain from religious consideration in this matter, a state sanctioned marriage does not have to be recognized by any church and churches can not tell the state which people can be married and get the tax rate. Personally I feel that marriage between two committed people is better than sleeping around, it is safer and contributes to financial stability. I think this is a state issue.

I don't fit easily into any box, but I align more closely to conservative Democrats than any other, I could possibly be called a Blue Dog Democrat by some, but I am not sure myself if this would be correct.
The blue dog coalition of the Democratic party went from having 54 members in 2010 to just 18 in 2018.

A lot of them lost in Nov. 2010 due to Obamacare, which was rammed through with no bipartisan support, and the stimulus, which was passed with the reluctant help of blue dogs.
