Tesla's are charged up at night when it's only base load electricity available. So they ARE coal powered cars.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Tesla’s and Volts are not coal powered. We have a volt and plug into our electrical outlet in the garage. We save hundreds of dollars not buying gas. I think we fill up maybe 3 times a year if that.
So when it comes to motor vehicles, where do you draw the line at "luxury"?
I know a LOT of "regular" people who buy cars at about 40K, which would put the Model 3 Tesla in their range....
A model 3 is no Rolex. IMHO, you have to go north of 50 or 60K with a motor vehicle to enter true lux territory and north of 90 for the real real thing.
Right?
What is the top selling American vehicle?
Why, it’s the Ford F150 which starts at ~$41,000 in my area for the 4-wheel drive model.
Top of the line hits ~$60k.
I don’t know anyone who considers it a luxury vehicle.

I think the point was that 30% of the nation's electricty was generated from coal fueled plants.
Using trade to wage war is a bad idea to begin with. Rust Belt became economically uncompetitive by paying $45/hour to workers producing uncompetitive products, that is not stolen jobs. Tariffs do not work until competitiveness is back. Things will always come back to how they are.

Thing is, we don't want competitiveness. That means being dragged down to the lowest common standard. We don't want to be paid on the scale of an Third World laborer and thus have their standard of living. We don't want One World Economy.
