I agree, that is an absurd idea.

Default The New Racism

Most educated Americans no longer judge people because of superficial traits like skin color. We know that if a person has dark or light skin is unrelated to their character and their worth. And we can't help being dark or light, tall or short, etc., even if we wanted to.

But there seems to be a deep human need to hate and blame and exclude (as well as to love and admire and include). We can't use race anymore to justify our natural hatred, so we seem to have found a good substitute -- political affiliation.

I know people who literally will not associate with anyone of the opposite ideology. It is breaking up families and friendships.

If my close relatives thought I had voted for Trump, they would never speak to me again. A friend told me the other day that Republicans are all evil.

Each side seems not to have any idea what the other really believes, or why. The Left listens to Rachel Maddow and the Right listens to Ann Coulter, etc.

It is very possible to frame exactly the same information in opposite ways.

But the Democrats I know feel they must fight for the survival of the world. Not that they are actually disrupting their comfortable lives very much. But they are talking about it a lot. The world is seriously threatened, in their minds, by Trump. But I suspect they would feel the same about any Republican president.

Politics is not just people of good conscience with differing opinions. Government is force. It is a gun, and when you vote you are deciding who will be pointing that gun at me. That is my life you are ****ing with, not just a difference of opinion.

So your solution is to vote for who you like so the "gun" isn't pointed at you anymore but others? F that, I'll keep it at your head.

You state the bold as FACT, but you hardly know that to be true. Secondly, politics is often a Trojan Horse for race issues. The US would most likely not be an anomaly in regards to white majority countries, in terms of leaning to the left with universal health care and the like that you find in most Western countries.....if it was not for the issue of race. We are not like the other Western nations because many people do not want to have a "big government" if people that don't look like them are seen as disproportionately benefiting from the largess.

Exactly. That's why political differences are not just friendly differences of opinion.

(Aside from the fact that I am a libertarian and don't think anyone should have the gun)

If your relatives would not talk to you because of who you voted for then they are terribly brainwashed or they don't care about you or both. The division of family and friends over this is unacceptable.

If they really believed Evil is taking over, that Trump is literally Hytler and his cabinet the SS, they are not doing much to stop them. Calling them turtle heads. lol. Tucker Carlson brought that up, if our country were under attack by an evil dictator and his army we would ALL have to fight it together and we would be at actual war. But the role playing leftists know it isn't real, they are just so butthurt things didn't go their way that they are telling themselves it is the end of the world. It sinks in and they become nasty people to anyone who doesn't feel as bad as they do.

I agree with much of this, but IMO the left (or more specifically the Democrats) are disproportionately responsible for the divisiveness due to their embrace of identity politics. I agree that we were at a point where any Republican President was going to be reflexively called a racist, a bigot and more. Trump is a reaction to that, and he is the first politician to really almost flat out refuse to play their game. He is not dancing around in fear of being tarred by their accusations. Pretty refreshing, at times.

I saw another poster here say that one of Trump's biggest accomplishments was to expose the media, and I think there is a lot of truth in that as they were complicit in the identity politics games and seem to want to divide people for political gain.

We are much bigger than most other Western countries, as well as more diverse. Big government programs become huge here. Our government knows how to grow, it does not know how to shrink, and that can certainly be a problem. Those of us who are not socialists are distrustful of huge powerful governments. Maybe it's ok for a little country like Sweden. But even they have problems with it.

I blame the Dems for all the hatred that is swirling around America and the Lefty media for perpetuating the fake news and false outrage at everything Trump does.

I know people that have bought in to the hype hook line and sinker and they go to bed in worry and wake up fear that today might be the day that Trump pushes the button to nuke the world.

These people are unhinged and it is scary.

What is it with the Dems that can't separate their politics for everyday life? It consumes them.

I have lost friends and family because I dared to mention that I preferred Trump to Hillary and voted for him. I know of others that do not hang out with each other because they cannot have lunch without the conversation turning into a screaming match.

It is so ridiculous and the most anger I have seen is from Democrats.
