Fine and Dandy if the accuser isn't guilty of the same thing.

Every country looks after itself

Nothing wrong with working with allies to resolve issues.

The approach is important. So far Trump's approach hasn't been very successful on the international front -- at all.

I know -- give it time. ....we are......

Oh so we have been taken advantage of for 80 years. That's fantastic. We spend 72% of the total budget towards NATO. I have my own mind. The USA is being SCREWED! Finally we have someone at the helm who is putting an end to this BS!

What is the USA paying for. It's paying for its own protection. The USA does not participate in NATO programs as a generous, caring country. It does so for its own self serving purposes...nothing wrong with that.

And there is so much more to it.

And countries are working towards meeting their goals.
And what is being asked is for other countries to build up their military spending. That doesn't go in the NATO coffers as part of a 'bill paid'.

Trump is playing his base. It worked last year and he is doing it again.

Poor USA always being picked on....poor baby.

Expecting European nations nations to meet their NATO obligations and that US workers/companies get a fair deal. He's absolutely insane.

Jesus. This post makes no sense, Europe is the West along with Canada and Australia. We used to be but who the hell knows.

Merkel has hit back.

“I am very happy that today we are united in freedom, the Federal Republic of Germany. Because of that we can say that we can make our independent policies and make independent decisions. That is very good, especially for people in eastern Germany.”

She also defended Germany’s contribution to an alliance which Trump says has placed too much burden on the U.S. taxpayer: “Germany does a lot for NATO,” she said.

“Germany is the second largest provider of troops, the largest part of our military capacity is offered to NATO and until today we have a strong engagement towards Afghanistan. In that we also defend the interests of the United States.”

I hear what you are saying, but we have been taken advantage of for many decades by our allies with regards to trade, and contributions to NATO for the defense of Europe, and Asia. Trump's style is not very diplomatic, but that may be just what we need to get some movement from these countries to level the playing field. Trump is NOT asking for unfair advantages, just a more equal footing. Yes, he asks in a demanding way. That's his style. I think it will work better than the typical politician parsing every word.

It is going to require patience as you insinuate as these countries will cry like stuck pigs in order to turn the tide of U.S. public opinion to get their way. The media will act as their megaphone.

It is funny that I have to take the conservative position. Trumplicans are acting like Putin loving commies who seek to undermine our nation and alliances. Calling it like it is.
