Interesting idea:

Tie Congress’s Paychecks to Our Good Health
Nicholas Kristof

Choose almost any modern country, and its people pay less for health care and its children are more likely to survive...

That's what happens when the government subsidizes something. The price goes up.

It's the same story with college tuition.

neko is right. government regulations, government subsidies, etc. all conspire to raise the price of health care, and thus health insurance. there is no free market for health insurance anymore, if there ever has been.

when you have real competition, not this government regulated and controlled market, you get real competition, and that means lower prices because every business is fighting for your dollars. and the harder they fight, the more money you can save. open up the health insurance markets, cut regulations that are stupid, for instance there are something like 1000 different codes for a rattlesnake bite, and that is unnecessary. let the doctors offices streamline their operations, and watch costs fall. same with hospitals.

Congress is not responsible for your healthcare. That is your individual responsibility.

Yes, the current mess we have was created by intrusive government involvement and inflation causes by subsidies. The best option would be to create a completely free market system, but that has 0% chance of ever happening.

The next best option from a savings point of view will be Medicare for All, to guarantee a minimum of coverage for everyone and also deregulating the rest of the system, allowing people to purchase more insurance if they wish, allowing options to grow and bringing prices down.

not completely free market, some regulation is necessary, but definitely open up the markets to competition.

Do you have health insurance? If so, you are paying for other people’s stuff. And they are paying for your stuff.

They force people to buy car insurance, so no difference in health care.

All the money I have paid into car insurance over the years and its all gone to pay for other peoples accidents, or better to say, majority went straight to their profit margins, the last time I checked State Farm had astronomical yearly profits!!
