The United States is not at war with Russia. We have no declaration of war, no authorization for the use of force, no embargo on trade or diplomacy, etc.
The Constitution puts diplomacy within the purview of the Executive Branch.
Trump meeting Putin is an act of diplomacy, per the Executive Branch purview.
So according to the facts, Trump is doing nothing wrong by meeting with another national leader in private.
The assumption is that because of earlier assumptions, Trump is plotting treasonous acts against the US and doing so with the confidence of the president of Russia, and it has to be treason, else why else won't they let other people in the room? Blah blah.
What he is doing may have crappy optics, but it isn't treason, and it does not violate letter or spirit of the US Constitution.
Almost 700 Russian people and companies are under U.S. sanctions. Individuals face limits on their travel and freezes on at least some of their assets, while some top Russian state banks and companies, including oil and gas giants, are effectively barred from getting financing through U.S. banks and markets. They include billionaires such as Oleg Deripaska and Viktor Vekselberg; close political allies of Putin including his former chief of staff, Sergei Ivanov, and Dmitry Rogozin, a deputy prime minister from 2011 to 2018; and corporate titans such as Rosneft PJSC, Gazprom PJSC, Sberbank PJSC and VTB Group.
Of all of Trump's dumpster fires on the world stage, this was the most despicable of all. Undermining our own agencies and our own government. The world is laughing at us. He's in way over his head, he doesn't listen to anybody, doesn't read his briefing books, has no policy, and is so thin-skinned that he's more obsessed with what people say about him than with the good of the country. He's no leader, that's for sure.
Nope. People actually think they are creating a Leave it to Beaver society. What they are creating is A Handmaid's Tale.
Both fictional. Keep that firmly in mind.
