When we are discussing slavery in historical context then usually the first that comes into mind is "evil whites enslaved blacks".
But as we all know, slavery has a very long history and traditions. It existed in all continents except the Antarctica(and, by the way, slavery still continues in some countries). Whites enslaved whites, Arabs enslaved blacks, other Arabs, Asians, as well as blacks enslaved other blacks etc. And the amount of black slaves wasn't even a close to the number of enslaved Whites and Asians.
So how come that we always mark out only one of the types of slavery - the "whites-enslaved-blacks" kind of slavery?
Don't you think it's wrong and profane?
What is your point?
I mean slavery is just plain wrong. Period.
Well, I think everyone including me will agree with your statement.
But the point of my question was why we always remind only about sins of white slave traders?

I dunno.
Maybe because in medieval times America started to import black slaves from the (white) Europeans so slavery became a lucrative and global trade?
Not many slaves were brought to Europe itself.
I think the reason is that black people were enslaved the most recently as a very large scale commercial enterprise, like in the South, where I think almost all the black people were slaves and if they weren't they were vulnerable to being caught and sold.

No, because it was a fairly recent example. Twelve percent of the US population is here because of it, not because they set out for a better life. That does not mean it should be waved as an excuse for anything and everything, but the unique attributes of this particular example are relevant.

Arabs and Africans also enslaved whites which many don't realize. There are ethnic groups right now in the middle east who's forefathers were from the caucus mountains region, they were enslaved. Whites were enslaved in north africa too. So your right its not just blacks in America.

No, but I'm an American and so my exposure to the impacts of slavery were felt HERE in the USA, and in the USA, being a slave pretty much means you are black.
I think MOST posters on this board are American - certainly the breakdown of different topics seems to indicate that - so for most of the other posters out there, the situation I mention above is probably true as well.
If this was a North African board in Arabic things would be different, but the fact is, it isn't. It's an English language board with mostly (I would suspect) American posters.

To answer your question as it pertains to America the Europeans brought mostly African slaves to America where they continued to be slaves after America won independance. Most were black therefore it makes a blck-white issue.
It should be realized though that Indpendance of America set in motion freedom for all people though it took time.
