Pretty sure one could extrapolate that Obama was referring to his family's roots in the country, since his father was born there.

I'd think most politicians who were giving speeches in a country where one of his/her parents were born would claim the area as "their own."

He was born in Hawaii. Last I checked, Kenya is not in Hawaii... nor is Hawaii in Kenya.

ETA: Of course, it could have also meant it ironically, since everyone knows he's been accused of being born there since about 2008.

Birthers. Proof that there is some really unintelligent life on the planet.

My ancestors are from Sicily. We consider it "where we come from."

Birthers are not bright enough to figure such nuances out, though.

Because birthers are idiots.

But we all knew that a decade ago.

It's over...let it go.

It's a trap to make the right seem as unhinged as the left.

Not understanding the subtleties of discourse is something that still amazes me about people, really.

Did they just not teach people about context clues in school?

I mean, people will totally think stuff like Birtherism or the Deep State sound perfectly logical, but a speech is a real head scratcher.

I don't recall George W Bush blasting Obama.

No, an ex-president criticizing a sitting president is not "a very normal thing "

But, then again, you already knew that.

Some of them are.

There's no "seem" to it.

There are some genuinely loopy people on both sides of the political spectrum.

I also don't recall Clinton bashing Bush Sr.

But, Trump has been criticized by all of them.

You do the math on that one.

Of course it's a trap the right itself built.

I guess when they get bored chasing their own tails they turn to making traps to catch themselves.
