Indeed you are lucky to have found such a great job in WV. WV continues to lose their younger population because they have such difficulty in finding jobs.
We used to live there too.
When did you leave? The 3 counties around me have been experiencing significant investment and a lot of young families moving in.
The latest median age for my area is 35.4 years old. Median Household Income is strong @ $73,229 (23.1% growth). With a 9.2% growth of employment. Many of the new investments in the state have far more jobs then the people to fill them. My house has increased $19,000 in value in just 10 months. Might be worth looking at coming back, just don't forgot to bring your MAGA hat
The state with the highest rate of inward domestic migration is Idaho. We are among the "reddest" states in the nation.
Very true statements. But are the folks moving to Idaho coming because it is a conservative state, or despite its conservatism? The state has beautiful scenery and the climate in many areas is not so harsh for the northerly latitude. Moreover, some areas of the state are not overly Republican and trending more moderate - i.e. the state capital of Boise - which is partly a result of the newcomers.

This is probably the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Aside from politics (since the entire state is bright red in presidential races), the area is not representative of the state. It is far more accessible to the mid-Atlantic region with a wide range of industry and no coal mines. Most of West Virginia is stagnant at best aside from the eastern panhandle and the Morgantown area.

WV is never going to be a booming job market. The terrain simply isn't one that is good for that. I don't know why people think there are going to be manufacturers willing to build a plant in the mountains. Those like myself are perfectly fine with that.
The places that once hired many now have Wall Street bound and determined to squeeze every penny out of them running them into the ground and then, who know.
I sort of wished I had the opportunity to live here in the future with a monthly check to do nothing other than roam around in the mountains as that is where we are heading as a country.

But what will happen to WV then?
The geography is not advantageous to build manufacturing plants but if coal isn't going to be booming again - then what?
It's kinda sad actually.
