Agreed. But the assertion was Trump was the first president to address the issue, and he wasn't. Hope Trump's diddly doesn't include that $12 billion bailout.
In that case, you should have been behind Trump because that's all Trump wants. But that is NOT what we have had. I'm not sure why Canada was pulled into it but the tariffs imposed on us by China are more than double than we have on them, and with Mexico it's more than triple. And on top of that, China simply closes off many markets altogether.
It doesn't make sense. If liberals want free trade then why are they so opposed to renegotiating unbalanced trade deals and using our market leverage to incentivize others to agree to equally free trade? It's like liberals have no issues with other countries imposing huge tariffs and barriers to protect their markets while at the same time insisting we allow unilateral free trade and full access to our markets.
Nobody is against renegotiating.
Nobody has said they don't want Trump administration to talk to the allies about trade.
Not one person.
That's something you must have made up in your head.
And yes -- China was the problem - then China should have been who Trump was talking to.
My cautious nature right now is from my Trump's past victory laps They usually are for the show and end up fizzling out with nothing to show for it.
I will wait until the deal is made.
I do think there will be deals and they will be mutually beneficial. And no doubt Trump will declare some victory as the allies walk away wondering why he spent a year making such drama when all he had to do was sit and talk. Wait a minute -- it's for the show. And people eat it up.
Hopefully Trump will not change his mind on this issue. The US and EU do huge amounts of trade and altering that mechanism could have disastrous effects.
Hopefully more republicans will start to realize that China is our enemy in regards to trade (not the EU and Canada.)

Maybe Trump thinks it gives him more bargaining power with China to fight with everyone -- but I doubt it.
They were always at the table, we had negotiations with them all the time. Trump just got us back to the state we were in before the trade war. Maybe we will be in a stronger negotiating position, but we certainly don't know that yet.
So, do tell, while obama and bush were at the table, when were the tariffs negotiated?
