Was this kind of response even necessary?

Someone wrote this piece. A writer suggested that Black people should consider moving to New Hampshire.

First of all, the people are wonderful, and as I mentioned above the crime rate is extremely low. The state motto, "Live Free or Die," is reflected in the general attitude and climate of freedom and opportunity that exists.

I know we are annoying is all, us white for folks. I’m just guessing at the reasons here, maybe you could help?

An elderly white man was beaten almost to death in St Paul by a group of non white folks when he politely asked them why they threw bags of trash on the ground literally right next to a trash can. So it begs the question...

The men who did that were a bunch of thugs, and here is the thing. We don't know much else about the situation other than these were some angry men. Nothing to do with putting garbage in cans being offensive.

One particular telling item is their housing comments. Housing in NNE is dirt cheap compared to Southern New England/NY/NJ/MD and most urban areas of the country. Young families could more readily buy homes here than in most urban areas. They are correct that we don't have the kinds of large apartment complexes you find in most urban areas, but growth feeds on itself. If enough people were moving into an area, developers would start building whatever the market demands.

Anybody is welcome here no matter their color. We are a live and let live culture. It is insulting for the NYT or anyone else to infer that we are somehow lacking because we have so few minorities. It is nothing to apologize for.
I'll take your word for it, but then, how does that explain someone like Gov. Paul LePage, who is pretty intolerant, petty and makes a lot of racist comments publicly?

He was correct about drug dealers coming up from NY and MA to sully up northern rural areas. They don't go up there for the scenery. He may have been a little too honest in how he said it but he wasn't wrong.

They never can put 2 and 2 together...crime rate is low for a reason!

Yes, LePage can be too honest at times. The reality here in Vermont is that our prisons are disproportionately black due to drug dealers coming up from the Holyoke/Springfield, MA, Albany, NY, and NYC/Northern NJ areas. We may be live and let live and we will welcome anyone that wants to join us, but not the criminal element.

Did he really have to get racial about it? Yes or No?

Here is the thing. I don't care who is in the prisons. What disturbs me about LePage that he turned to racial fear-mongering. He turned this into "urban Black people are coming for your White women". That he did not need to do. That will not bode well for Maine's reputation.
