Polar Bear Shot and Killed After Attacking Cruise Ship Guard

This is straight from a "Believe it Or Not" show, except it's true. A guard on ship cruising the Norwegian Arctic was attacked by a polar bear, causing moderate to severe head injuries. Another employee on the ship shot and killed the animal. Strong protests have broken out, with some questioning killing the bear for “acting like a wild animal.”.

Again, animals over people. How warped have peoples' values become? I would consider this a parody of the animal rights movement worthy of Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels or Voltaire's Candide if it weren't true. So is the new slogan "animals are people too"? But it was a close call in New York State's highest Court: "NY's highest court rejects bid to grant chimps 'legal personhood"

Obviously it was the right thing to do but this was very careless of the tour guide. Tourists should not be hiking in areas near polar bears, the outcome is predictable.

Plenty of hikes in bear country go off without incident. Include in Yellowstone's and Glacier's grizzly country.

The take-away:

Avoid close contact with polar bears.

No matter how cute you think they are.

Nothing good can come from it.

No, obviously the man should have been allowed to be killed.

Is it not possible to have a gun that shoots a tranquilizer instead of a bullet?

The guide should have been more aware, it sounds like it was open country but don’t see all the details.

Grizzlies don't normally actively hunt humans for food. Polar bears do.

It is, but a polar bear has a huge body mass. The tranquilizer would take effect too slowly to be of much help in that situation.

The solution, of course, is to stay away from bears. Don't do stupid things like trying to take a selfie with a bear... or wander around in a known hangout for polar bears.

But that's neither here nor there in this situation. The mistake had already been made. So now we are faced with a man about to be torn apart by a polar bear, and a bunch of crying liberals that want to allow it to happen rather than stop it in the only way it could then be stopped.

"Everything I learned about tranquilizer darts comes from the 1960s Batman show starring Adam West."
