Chicago activists are demanding Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s resignation ahead of an anti-violence protest later this week.
Activists want Emanuel and police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to step down over the city’s high crime rates, the Rev. Gregory Livingston told the Chicago Tribune.
Protesters plan to march along Lake Shore Drive to Wrigleyville during Thursday night rush hour. Organizers could also force their way into Wrigley Field, where the Cubs will be playing the San Diego Padres, Livingston said.
“The call of the people is ‘Resign Rahm,’” Livingston said.
Another organizer, the Rev. Ira Acree, told the publication people are prepared to be arrested during the march.

Attempting to scale Wrigley Field will be clearly bombarded with 60's style riot force. They definitely cannot not try a attempt, or there cause just lost any peaceful resistance. Perhaps they feel time to truly bring in the Feds to these neighborhoods gang rivalries have heated up again?
Rahm will no more resign then a Donald Trump would. But if it escalates ..... Trump clearly will gain more reason to send in what he threatened to do...... then said if asked by the city he would.
Chicago has continued to be a "Tale of Two Cities". One restoring and booming with a Top Core in the Nation and one Gangs still rule and do revenge tactics on there notorious neighborhood streets.
Some feel the city wants the Black-Flight going on for decades in the city to continue. But it clearly is NOT to the cities advantage to have this increase keep on going without more massive offensive methods. Just the City's Police Force is more and more stymied by offensive methods.... that some go array and lawsuits abound and blame.
Hopefully no violence in this demostration occurs.... but again, Rahm is going nowhere. But something clearly to aid these Gang-filled neighborhoods is needed.
The last protest that closed the Dan Ryan is costing taxpayers more than $323,000. I wonder what this will cost them.
And I agree, Rahm isn't going to go anywhere. If the heat is too much to handle, he'll throw Police Superintendent, Eddie Robinson, under the bus.
But this is all comical anyway. The last protest resulted in putting police on foot patrol, they stopped a guy who was wearing a gun to find out if he was licensed to do so, he wasn't having it, started to flee, put his hand on his gun and was shot to death. Then the community was up in arms about that.
If Rahm Emanuel resign, who'll succeed as mayor of Chicago to serve as interim mayor until the next municipal election?
It depends on the city but in Chicago the Vice-Mayor takes over as interim mayor until the City Council can elect someone of their own to become the acting mayor.
When Harold Washington died in office, David Orr, the Vice-Mayor stood in until the City Council elected Eugene Sawyer, for example.
But this is all a moot point because he's not going anywhere.
Rahm's administration got away with trying to cover-up the police murder of Laquan McDonald so this isn't going to oust him lmfao.
I'm sure any time now Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson will trade favors by coming out and saying Rahms an ok guy.
Former mayor Daley bought Sharpton off years ago, during similar protests. Voila, key speaking gig at the DNC is all it cost him.
Corruption alive and well in the Windy City.
