The REAL reason: I suspect the Dems feared their violent bullying perverse base might show up and fling some poop, burn the flag, beat up Trump supporters or worse — shoot more republican baseball players.....so they decided to play it safe....wouldnt look good at midterms.

the RNC didn't cancel the traditional game of goodwill for the last 10 years, which says a lot about the RNC. the DNC cancelled the game this year, which says a lot about the DNC.

Who cares? It's a softball game between people we don't know and don't care about.

The DNC/RNC game has only been played for 10 years. Not a time honored tradition like the congressional baseball game is. Ds already beat the Rs in the congressional baseball game last month.

DNC staffers are busy working on the 2018 election, as the reason for not playing this year's softball game. It makes sense to use all the staffers on an election rather than keeping them in DC for the game. They'd have to have a few practices, then the game. This would take them out of the field for several days. Smart move by the DNC to have their staffers focus on the election rather than playing softball.

Maybe they'll have time to play softball next year - a slow election year. 2018 has a lot of Democrat Senate incumbents running - at least 3x as many Ds in the Senate incumbents running versus R incumbents.

DNC is "keeping their eye on the ball" and focusing on the election, rather than a softball game.
Exactly.

Also, why play anything with the RNC?

They cheat constantly and have for decades. Stole Muskie's stationary and sent out bogus letters. Lied about Kerry's military service, constant smear campaign against both Bill and Hillary Clinton, .... gerrymandered districts, ... purged voter roles ... stole a seat on the Supreme Court, ... now it looks like they are getting campaign donations and campaign help from the Putin.

RNC sources tell The Daily Caller that they were “stunned” when Democrats abruptly pulled out of the good-natured game between leadership and staffers at opposing political organizations.

The game was an opportunity to put aside the partisan bickering and come together in friendly competition. The decade-old tradition typically ended in staffers having a drink at a nearby bar.

...
After the game last year, both teams posed for a team photo where Chairwoman McDaniel and Chairman Perez stood next to each other in solidarity with Rep. Scalise, who was horrifically wounded during the shooting of a congressional Republican baseball practice by a Bernie Sanders supporter.

This is totally indicative with where the DNC is in how they relate to others. They are at war with other Americans and have absolutely no interest in being cordial and putting differences aside for the betterment of anything.
Trumpism is NOT the Republican party, the party has been hijacked.

Dems played with Repubs, NOT Rethugs. Trumpism is racism, it is hate for your fellow citizen, it is isolationism, it is fascist. Trumpism is ugle lies told about everyone not in the "gang".

Dems played ball with Repubs, when the Repubs come back i am sure the dems will be delighted to play some ball. As it stands nobody wants to deal with the jackbooted thugs of Trump.

But the Dems participation trophies were already engraved

Making them non-paricipation trophies shouldn't be too hard I would think
