It's astounding how little some people know about the very basics of our government among other things. Actually it's embarrassing when you think about people going through 12 years of basic education and yet have very little basic knowledge in general. I've met people at my work who don't know there are 12 inches in a linear ft.
Somehow they manage to make it through life.

Some people need to read the Constitution, and a little bit of the history leading up to that, starting with the Articles of Confederation.

Although that system causes a number of complications, it's also a strategic strength of the nation.

Unlike many other nations, the distribution of essential services and protections is de-centralized enough in the US that the nation would never be paralyzed by a successful terrorist strike on the national capital. While most states would eventually run into great economic difficulty, basic operations and law and order would go on without DC.

Because the federal government hasn't found a way to circumvent the constitution on that particular matter. You can bet they are working on it, though.

That depends on the state. Here in Maryland all traffic violation fines: stop sign, red light and speeding (for these two unless they're camera violations, then they go to the locality), reckless driving, DUI, etc. goes to the state which then rebates a very small portion back to the issuing jurisdiction.

Municipalities can game the system a bit if they have their own police department (many ones in Maryland don't but contract instead with the County based Police/Sheriff Departments or the Maryland State Police) by making the violations municipal infractions instead of summonses.

Besides, I love all the different license plates, it’s fun to see the states’ personalities on those things.
Yeah! Like way back when Oklahoma was OK! But then some people may dispute Oklahoma was OK in 1968, because if you were on board a jet and drinking the stewardess would come up to you and grab your drink. When asked why she would say "Because we're about to enter dry air space--Oklahoma!"

Trust me. I know you wait in line or have to take a number in some states but would you REALLY want to deal with the Federal government every year just to get your renewal tag?
