Hurray, more money for our bloated military. Let's build more 4 billion dollar boats. And our military folks only get a 2.6% raise. And no Conservatives see what's wrong here?

$4B will buy you a new destroyer. A destroyer is a support ship. We need new aircraft carriers like the CVN-79. $18B but it needs a little more redesign work. Two more aircraft carriers are in the planning stages. If we're going to keep the terrorists off our shores, new aircraft carriers with the newest fighter/bomber planes are what we need.

A 2.6% pay raise with disco-class hardware does nothing.

How do aircraft carriers keep terrorists off our shores, when they can just take a commercial airliner to come here?

Meanwhile, there are going to need to be workers that assemble those boats yes?

My town for some stupid reason voted no to allow a shipyard to go in...
The amount of jobs.... it went to Alabama. One of my friends who is a welder moved to Alabama from NY and works at the shipyard welding up the ships you mock. Dude makes bank doing it too.

Enough so he can feed 3 children, have a brand new challenger that he built for drag racing and bought 3 trucks to do what's called hot shot trucking hired 2 guys to drive for him and he takes the 3rd truck for when he has days off. (Why-because he wants to put all of his kids through college so he's hustling.)

So yes absolutely mock it in a 1 way street point of view as being totally bad.

Wouldn't make any difference if the billions went to ship building for the navy to have new toys or the air force with the F35 to have new toys or if it went to rebuilding crumbling infrastructure. People will win regardless for there will need to be employees doing work. Until the day automation has replaced every facet of manufacturing and construction.

Hey... at 115 per hour... to weld... in less than ideal conditions. Plus great benefits... Wouldn't you?

Your whack-a-doodle system offers none of this. Your 'militia' is 100% voluntary (good luck with that if you are ever invaded and an insufficient number of people volunteer to fight). And since there is no governing body, there is noone to stop another country from occupying land that is unowned.

At least you're honest enough to admit you're a socialist.

Oh, as for your endorsement of conscription:

“(Conscription) rests on the assumption that your kids belong to the state.... That assumption isn’t a new one. The Nazis thought it was a great idea.”

They could pay them decent salaries if they cut the spending in other military expenditures. $717 billion is ridiculously high.
I agree with you on this. If we'd stop intervening with military force in countries where we don't belong, that would be good, too.

717 billion is WAY too high. This is one of the biggest reasons I wrote in Rand. Coming from a military family, im glad they'll get raises, but this spending is horrible.
