“Oh man it's kind of sick how much joy I get out of being cruel to old white men,” Jeong wrote in July 2014 in one of several old messages that have gone viral.
Social media reactions first flared on Wednesday with images of incendiary tweets from an unverified Twitter account that looked to belong to Jeong. They surfaced shortly after The Times announced she was joining the paper. The Times issued a statement on Thursday declaring that it had reviewed her social media history during the hiring process and was standing by the decision to bring her aboard.
She said she engaged in "counter-trolling" against comments she received, and then lists comments she received that were directed solely at her and who knows what they were in response to. I don't believe her, nor do I think she's changed much. This is why I refuse to pay the New York Times one cent of my money.
Social Media is going to be the nail in civilization's coffin.
I don't blame the medium by which words/thoughts are spread.... that's like saying forks lead to salmonella poisoning (they move the food from plate to mouth).
So, as it has been demonstrated over and over and OVER again, hypocrisy is not a problem for many people. (And to be clear, there are plenty of conservative hypocrites, too!)
Is it any wonder that I am proud to be a moderate, and able to point out the flaws, imo, of extremists at both ends of the political spectrum?
Ive read some of her tweets. She is a classless trash bag, but then I dont read the NYT so I wont be bothered by her racist scribblings. Maybe they brought her in for some controversy in hopes of propping up their failing business model.
