Meanwhile the dems became progressive for a time (civil rights etc.). Now the dems are a shadow of their former selves and becoming republicans, but republics were acting like dems during the slave days, and now republicans are becoming more tolerant and acting like dems SHOULD be acting, or becoming what dems preach about.

This is really confusing..

progressive for a time??? They are progressive right now and so is alot of the right.
The less racist the South became the more Republican it became. The republicans didn't control the Southern Congress until ~1990
