But they’re not catching crime rings. They’re catching criminals of opportunity, and the police created the opportunity. Entrapment is not right. If they had put the truck in a location where they knew a thief or group of thieves regularly stole these items and they wanted to catch them, then I’d understand. This is not what they were doing. They’re catching people who wouldn’t have done this in a normal situation.

I'm pro-2nd Amendment but what kind of irresponsible person leaves guns and ammunition in a vehicle?
I suspect many a straw purchaser has claimed their guns were stolen.

I agree.

Most people would see the truck and go on their way without a second thought but there are a few that would resort to stealing.

I saw a video a few years back where these guys placed a bicycle against a tree and walked away. Most people just walked by but a number of young black guys couldn't resist. They would walk near the bike, look around in case anyone was watching them and then hop on and take off really fast. The thing they didn't realize until it was too late was that the bike was tied to the tree and when they got about 30 feet away they were snapped off the bike either jocked or over the handle bars. It was pretty funny.

20 plus years ago the state troopers on the highways in my state used to drive unmarked Camaros and Mustangs and they used them as bait, driving up beside a guy in a fast car and revving the engine like they wanted to race. If they unsuspecting guy stepped on it and found himself suddenly going 70 in a 60 mph zone the blue lights came on. Entrapment you bet but no one forced the guy to race.

This truck setup is a form of entrapment but guess what No one is twisting anyone's arm to steal and word will get out not to steal just in case it is a sting.

Not true though - there had been on going thefts in that area of trailer trucks.

If you watch the video you would hear a resident saying that it wasn’t right to leave that truck in the ghetto where kids were playing basketball.

What say you?[/QUOTE

Suspect if a similar bait truck were left in most areas of the US, there would be those who would seek to avail themselves of the contents.

No shortage of people cheat on their taxes, make fraudulent insurance claims, file frivolous personal injury suits, call in sick when they are not and so on, for values far in excess of a pair of shoes.

Theft come in many flavors and is always a personal choice.

No shortage of people are positioning to run for mayor and know that victimization plays well in US politics.

Stealing is a personal choice.

You don't understand. Gangs go in the Norfolk Southern rail yard steal from trains all the time, and sometimes they find guns.

What some of you are saying is....it's not fair because they just can't help themselves.

What other crimes are you willing to excuse due to *temptation*?
