I worry that a SCOTUS ruling against a Christian baker at the current time, with tensions as high as they are over cultural issues, could be the catalyst of mass unrest and civil war in a country that is still struggling to come to terms with legal gay marriage.
You realize they did it specifically because they knew this baker would refuse. They're trying to shut him down and set precedent, but I think the last case should have been enough for them.

Good luck with that. Your own officials making it clear they have a vendetta against the baker will do the homosexual crowd no good. Besides, the bullying of bakers by these peculiar people only harms their image.

I wonder how many non-Christian bakers the transvestites had to drive past to get to this one? Drag queens are now a protected class?

I am simply stunned that so many Americans DON'T know that Constitutional Rights supersede local and state laws. What does one even say in the face of such ignorance?

I’m really confused actually. We’ve been told for years that transgenders are not necessarily homosexual. So how is not baking this cake “discriminating based on sexual orientation”? By sexual orientation, don’t they mean who you want to have sex with and not what your gender identity is?

This is true. Sexual orientation and gender identity are two very different things. To most conservatives though there isn't any difference. Both don't conform to traditional sexual norms as mandated by their interpretation of scripture and that's enough to make them targets of right-wing hate.

I have a feeling that baker's life will be miserable for quite a while to come.
"No cake for you!" will only mean no cake for him to bake.

It's a pretty good way to set up No Cakes At All for him to bake. Not a good way to run a bakery for the baker.

I painted signs for a while in my younger days, and this season- an election year- was always a fat time for signpainters. I often disagreed with a politician's thoughts who came in to buy some signage, but I never turned down his money if I did, and I kept my thoughts to myself. I never saw a nickel for espousing my own politics, but I kept the bulldog fed by espousing theirs, and that was the important thing to me.

There's always another baker who will bake a cake, and there's always another sign painter who will paint a sign. Self-rightesnous doesn't feed the bulldog. Never did, never will.

Yes, reminds of the white arm bands with six sided blue stars Jews were forced to wear in the run up to WWII. When that didn’t work businesses were trashed, windows broken, stock trashed, people beaten....

We should worry if this doesn’t work to force Mr Phillips out of business, then next steps will be taken. It is especially disturbing that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission is being cheered on in its effort to “get him”.

Nothing honest about this case!

What a disgusting bunch of people, wasting everyone's money. Hopefully the Supreme Court kicks this case out of court!

Go and start your own bakery!

No, the purpose of the cake was to celebrate transition from one gender to another.
