Oh the horror! Imagine if things worked the way they should and our government and its elected officials couldn't manipulate the system, buy favors, and buy votes through the literal fear of death because of health care!?

Exactly. I'm all for UHC in the States, but first the out-of-control costs need to be addressed.

Scary isnt it? No increase in govt jobs, tax revenues or intrusions into our personal lives. We'll all certainly perish

A teeny tiny rural state with a weak economy. If Canada can afford it and most European nations too, we could too if we managed our finances better to serve the people instead of big businesses with ties to crooked politicians and a bloated military budget.

Funny no conservative says a thing about the 600 billion dollar military budget.

I made the initial first post in here: "Corporatism kills".

Didn't read through the responses. Let me guess...

Team Red: The government should do X, Y, Z in health care!

Team Blue: The government should do A, B, C in health care!

Oh wait, I see Frank and t206 are trying to talk some sense into the mob.

Good luck boys.

Dems had their shot at healthcare policy which resulted in Obamacare. Please step aside, nobody wants anymore of your outlandish ideas.

I'm on your side of the fence.....I'm on a $1200/month medicine, and you'd better believe I had to jump through dozens of hoops just to get insurance to pay for it.
While the rest of the developed world views healthcare as a right, not privledge, no two countries use the same strategy for implementation. Some rely entirely on public insurance. Some rely entirely on private insurance. Most are a mixed bag.

I am a huge advocate for ( and perhaps the most prolific poster on the topic) healthcare as a right, not a privledge in the US- Universal Healthcare, not necessarily the Single Payer strategy.

Having said this, I have a deep appreciation for the cost of Universal Healthcare given the size of the US population and unhealthy lifestyle choices. That 75% of us are overweight/ obese, it should not come as a surprise the US pays more per capita than anywhere else. Our weight is a significant contributer to the Diabetes 2 epidemic, Heart Disease, Stroke, some Cancers and Joint Deterioration.

If by magic wand, the US population could be right- sized, healthcare spending would be a fraction of what it is, today. With notice, the US could easily afford Universal Healthcare for those with waist sizes in the healthy range, regardless of income. ( of course those with defined medical conditions like pregnancy would be temporarily exempt) Those who choose not to take responsibility for their own health would not be eligible.

( I have no known health conditions and take no medications)
