The conceit tying together Warren’s ideas is that if corporations are going to have the legal rights of persons, they should be expected to act like decent citizens who uphold their fair share of the social contract and not act like sociopaths whose sole obligation is profitability — as is currently conventional in American business thinking.
The charter tells company directors to consider the interests of all relevant stakeholders — shareholders, but also customers, employees, and the communities in which the company operates — when making decisions. That could concretely shift the outcome of some shareholder lawsuits but is aimed more broadly at shifting American business culture out of its current shareholders-first framework and back toward something more like the broad ethic of social responsibility that took hold during WWII and continued for several decades.
She's basically changing the mission of a corporation from serving shareholders to shareholders/employees/customers/citizens that are affected.
This is a ground breaking idea. This is NOTHING LIKE THE WHAT THE OP SAID.
Now, if you disagree, let's hear it, BUT WHY DO YOU GUYS ALWAYS HAVE TO POST FAKE NEWS?? Serious? You can't have a frank discussion about the actual proposal?????
And wants to nationalize everything. Calls it the "Accountable Capitalism Act.”
Elizabeth Warren’s Batty Plan to Nationalize . . . Everything
Wholesale seizure and control of private property? With 2020 in her sights, Warren woos the hard Left.
Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has one-upped socialists Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: She proposes to nationalize every major business in the United States of America. If successful, it would constitute the largest seizure of private property in human history.
Warren’s proposal is dishonestly called the “Accountable Capitalism Act.” Accountable to whom? you might ask. That’s a reasonable question. The answer is — as it always is — accountable to politicians, who desire to put the assets and productivity of private businesses under political discipline for their own selfish ends. It is remarkable that people who are most keenly attuned to the self-interest of CEOs and shareholders and the ways in which that self-interest influences their decisions apparently believe that members of the House, senators, presidents, regulators, Cabinet secretaries, and agency chiefs somehow are liberated from self-interest when they take office through some kind of miracle of transcendence.
Under Senator Warren’s proposal, no business with more than $1 billion in revenue would be permitted to legally operate without permission from the federal government. The federal government would then dictate to these businesses the composition of their boards, the details of internal corporate governance, compensation practices, personnel policies, and much more. Naturally, their political activities would be restricted, too. Senator Warren’s proposal entails the wholesale expropriation of private enterprise in the United States, and nothing less. It is unconstitutional, unethical, immoral, irresponsible, and — not to put too fine a point on it — utterly bonkers.
You want her to be the nominee because she is one of the candidates who gives Trump his best shot at a second term. Democrats would be wise to not nominate her for that reason.
Why weren't you'll saying the same about Hillary?
I thought from the beginning that someone like Biden would be a stronger candidate, or just about anyone other than Hillary. Yet the (D's) didn't dare cross the Clinton machine and many were touting Warren as a VP or even the nominee if Hillary's health faltered.
Remember, with those who live by identity politics, having a woman at the top of the ticket was paramount in 2016. Maybe 2020 should be a bisexual transvestite male who is brown, but identifies as a white woman. That would check off many of the boxes in the wacky world of Democrats such as LGBTIQQCAPGNGFNBA
[Yes, sadly that is supposedly a real acronym of the deviant alphabet soup of kooks]
I can say that Warren at least had more charisma than Hillary, but she like many of the leftists in the (D) party are just slitting their own throats by going radical left. Then again they are letting their inner communist out and being true to their genuine desires to remake America.
Our country has been moderate right for as long as I can remember, yet the (D's) have abandoned the country by going hard left.
Heck, when you have the top Democrat trying to get to the left of an avowed socialist (communist at heart), and she got the nomination by trashing many of the principles of her husband, it is hard to see any moderates left in the party.
because she is not hitlery, she isn't owed it yet...
And Hillary's 'being owed' hasn't run out yet.
