Republicans with their sky-is-falling mentality argue that we're already under socialism in the USA. Apparently we've already had one socialist president enacting socialist healthcare, and the richest most powerful state in the union is apparently a full-on experiment in socialism.

Makes it seem not so bad, doesn't it?

What do I mean by that? American workers have been turned into modern day slaves who, no matter how hard they work, can't pay the bills. Not everyone wants to, or should, go to college for several years and rack up tens of thousands in student loans.

America boomed in the 50s and 60s because we made our own stuff in American factories. Detriot was a hot bed for car manufacturers and workers. Factory workers, content with their status quo, brought home a decent paycheck and medical insurance.

But look at us now! Various facets, including high taxes, federal regulations and greed, sent our factories and jobs overseas, leaving American workers in the dust. Once the product is made by overseas laborers it is sent back to USA to be sold by American workers who can't survive on the minimum wages their paid.

People are sick of it. Conservatives, republicans and Christians can point fingers all they want. The people fighting for socialism aren't bad people. They aren't lazy either. They are a bit misguided perhaps, but in the end they only want that slice of American pie that used to exist in the 50s and 60s.

If the capitalists, republicans and Christians don't start taking heed and start listening (to people other than Limbaugh, Hannity and all the rest), that socialist movement will continue to grow until it becomes a reality in time.

Just my opinion. I'm not going to argue because arguing is pointless and it bores me to tears.
I agree with pretty much everything you said except for the solution. We have become slaves in the manner which you describe to many extents but expecting the SAME politicians and lobbyists who got us here to all of a sudden not be power hungry and corrupt you're dreaming. It will turn into another hellhole of cookie jar robbing and deceit except we will be poorer. It all has to start with some amendments for term limits and easier removal processes for appointed judges and such, otherwise any new idea will just turn into another vehicle for them to rape us.

Capitalism is far from perfect. Humans are far from perfect and always will be. But if you think swinging the pendulum the other way to socialism, big government, communism, whatever, is the answer, you are just wrong.
Bail outs. tariffs. Quantitative Easing. Social Security. Medicare etc.....all Socialist. What do you mean swing?

We boomed for other reasons. Pah-lease.

I am not an advocate for socialism. Far from it. We're incapable of maintaining a government-free socialistic society run only by We, The (common) People. Human greed, jealousy and our need to be "better than the other guy" will never permit it. Socialism would be a complete and utter disaster.

My point is that capitalism seems to have reached its peak -- like a giant pyramid scheme. Those on top of the pyramid are filthy rich. Those on the bottom can't move up no matter how hard they work. This is what we all need to acknowledge. Once we do maybe we can fix the economic systems before the number of socialists expand and take over completely.

Just the fact that Bernie Sanders ran for the USA presidency should have been a huge wake up call.

This is a myth. The rest of the developed world had already surpassed their pre-war income per person by 1950/51. All throughout the 50s, 60s and much of the 70s, a massive economic boom took place. Imports and exports as a share of the economy was tiny, far smaller than today, so we did not boom because of exports to the rest of the world.

It was a time of strong unions, 90% tax rates, strong focus on public education, very high economic growth and very equal distribution of that economic growth. The poor and the middle class gained just as much as the rich during that period. A true golden age for the American worker. Then the 1980s and Reaganomics came. And the rest is history.

There's this thing that a lot of people used to have. It's called common sense. Don't live a lifestyle beyond your means, and you'll be able to pay your bills. Simple concept that somehow seems to escape many.

Common sense doesn't alter the truth. It's a fallacy that the working poor are living it up. That concept escapes many too.

Instead of always fighting and shouting down the other side, we all need to do something about the hole in the boat.
