The church has systemically hidden this ugly truth and protected pedophile or sexually deviant priests for decades. That's it. But by all means, let's listen to the Pope expound upon global warming.
The problem is that the church wants to put sexuality on a back burner. If the church would allow marriage and women in the priesthood. That would be a step in the right direction. Most of the cardinals are complicit in shuffling these pedophiles to different churches rather than defrock them. Allowing these priests to stay just perpetuates the problem.

Exactly.
The church was perfectly happy with the status quo and is only dealing with the problem after being dragged into it kicking and screaming every inch of the way.
The CC blaming the problem on homosexuality is showing us that "the powers that be" within the CC are trying to play the victim instead of taking responsibility. Shameful.
"I believe that there needs to be an open recognition that we have a very grave problem of a homosexual culture in the Church,”
I thought the church believed you could "pray out the gay" or some such nonsense. Have they tried praying to god change their sexual orientation? Oh that doesn't work? Good. So accept people for who they are. Oh, and maybe allow the clergy to have perfectly natural consensual relationships now (hetero and homosexual). But not with kids, thanks.
