Considering Awan was caught fleeing the country when he was arrested and had thumb drives of information on him this is an astounding revelation. Not to mention the way Schultz was carrying on while this was all happening. It's odd, to say the least.

This was a fake case to make it seem as though he was tried and nothing was found - when the truth is there was nothing about the IT scandal in play here.
The fact that WaPo and the court took the time to mention the other stuff... they know it's real and they felt the need to add in their two cents to try and debunk it further.

"Flee the country" is a right wing scare tactic. The guy's father died in Pakistan and he was heading back to Pakistan for a visit to square away business related to his late father's assets. "Flee the country" sounds so much more sinister, doesn't it.
