My prediction? A new "allegation" will come out less than 24 hours after if McConnell agrees to this deal. Coons pretty much foreshadowed the Dems next move. They'll use that to try and extend that one week. Watch.
All the FBI can do is interview the people that Ford named as witnesses. This will take less than a day. No different than talking to people who make threats against the president online.
And again, the Anita Hill FBI investigation took 4 days. There is no reason this has to take a lot of time.
You don't appear to understand that a background check involves an investigation into the individual's background.
Right. Which has already been performed. It isn't an investigation of allegations of criminal behavior. Its simply to ascertain issues the candidate might have that would compromise the integrity of their trusted position within the government.
You're asking for a law enforcement agency that is never tasked with investigating this type of crime with doing that.

They just need to get this done before the final vote on Monday or Tuesday. There is no reason they cannot do that.
The Democrats are laughing at them in this back room....they know exactly what they are doing.
They know that there is NO WAY to "limit the scope" of an FBI investigation.
They know that they will get a windfall of allegations that go on forever and a bunch of "what abouts" to create doubts about it.
the GOP will not gain turn ONE Democrat even with this "investigation" no matter what the final report says, how do they not see this? They are going to vote down the party line no matter what.
They still have 2 hours to get this right.
Yes, but if there is any possibility of clearing Kavanaugh's name they should welcome the opportunity. They should not vote someone in even if there is only a .5% chance they sexually assaulted someone. They should take the few days to see if any witnesses can collaborate innocence and/or collaborate the accuser is lying or mistaken.
If other accusers come out, well, take them as they come. I seriously doubt even the most partisan blind person truly believes the gang rape story. Ignore. The FBI could send one field investigator out to her house and discredit her in about 5 minutes I am sure.
AND I am sure any accusers lined up to come out this weekend after they thought he would have been confirmed may hold up now that accusations are being investigated. Unless they are truthful.
Now, that's not to say, after the FBI closes its investigation yet again that these accusers may then come out again to further delay things. But then we will know whats up. Well at least the Republicans will and the Independents who have no stake in this game.
If anything, this will clear Brett Kavanaugh's name. When the FBI says "We looked. Nothing to see. Move along.", he will be confirmed. This is not about getting any Democrats. It's about making sure all the Republicans vote to confirm and give them the ammunition to fight off the moonbats who are protesting.
I don't think it's logical to think that it'll play out that way. Given the division that all of this has caused, it's possible for anyone who knows him to now make up a claim to stall this nomination.
And what if the FBI continues to receive "anonymous" accusations leading up the to 12th hour again? Do they just ignore it? If they do ignore it, how will the Senate feel about the new set of allegations? It'll give the Democrats an endless list of " but what abouts" to fillibuster the nomination.

McConnell has no choice at this point. He does not have 50 votes to proceed without this condition since Flake and Murkowski are not on board yet (and all moderate Dems will obviously back the investigation).
Maybe not but there is no requirement that the Senate wait until an extended investigation is complete. The FBI will be asked for a report on Monday and if they have none to give then it will be considered an absence of evidence.
This isn't about changing votes for Kav next week but holding on to the Senate next month.
So they will vote before the FBI investigation is complete, good luck with that prediction. Why the rush, is this an emergency.
