Or Dr. Ford's bank accounts. Either way. You cannot say in one breath "Why would Dr. Ford lie to only have half the country smear her name" and then say "yup both guys are lying about committing a crime years ago to pad their bank accounts".
If these "anonymous" men really did assault Dr. Ford at a party as she describes they should be called as witnesses along with Mark Judge. Dr. Ford should then go to the local precinct where it happened and press charges.
Of course, if they all 3 testify and testify that Kavanaugh did not commit this act, Democrats would all be yelling "of course Judge lied, to protect his best friend and his himself".. "those men must be getting paid big bucks"...
It is very possible that both Kavanaugh and Ford are telling the truth.

No, the FBI does not have jurisdiction over local/state crimes. They have jurisdiction over federal crimes.
They have jurisdiction to complete a background check on Kavanaugh, in light of new information about his background being presented. They have jurisdiction to question anybody they like related to that information.
The argument that since the liberals did not bring such accusations against Neil Gorsuch, these accusations against Kavanaugh must be true is completely flawed and irrational. The two are completely independent of each other and the simple fact is the liberal extremists are DESPERATE and grasping at slimy lawyer tactics like using Michael Avenatti to have a client who claims she repeatedly attended gang rape parties held by high school males. Most moronic lie ever. Even a toddler comes up with better ones than that.
With each new "development" of the liberal accusations, their lies are painting them into a corner. They have lost any shred of decency they might have once possessed. How humiliating to be Christine Ford's family or that Swetnick person. No integrity.

This is dead on. This strategy by the Republicans is stupid. If they had simply withdrawn him when this first surfaced they would still have had time to get an alternate in place. This is all because Kavanaugh is Trump's golden boy. Similar attitudes toward women, they have a lot in common.
They are going to pay the price for following Trump down this path.

There are plenty of other people who have testified before multiple Congressional committee hearings and accused of lying under oath...
We ALL know exactly why the GOP senators won't allow the FBI to investigate, just as we ALL know why they're withholding all of those documents. Revealing more of Kavanaugh's past will damage his chances of confirmation.
It's really that simple.
IF the investigation and documents were likely to aid their cause, they'd be all in. Instead, they're stonewalling.
