Trump is considering firing Mattis due to the below comments Mattis made about Trump. Woodward wrote this in his new book. Mattis denies it. But since the denial, we get news today that Trump is looking at replacements to Mattis. Seems Trump does't buy the denial.
According to Woodward, they all spoke to him because everyone wanted to give their own "spin". They were afraid "not" to talk to him. It makes sense. If one is in an administration where everyone is figuratively carrying a knife daily, and they all are talking to Woodward, why would one want to not defend themselves? Woodward didn't go to the White House to talk to them, he went to their homes in the evening. He said he learned that during Watergate.
Trump can fire Mattis but he's going to have to fire most of them from the way it sounds. It's a dumpster fire on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
It would make sense for Trump to fire Mattis. Mattis, after all, is a smart man with a decent reputation who served honorably on behalf of this country. Trump probably doesn't have much in common with him and would feel more at ease with some sniveling crook. Same for AG.
