By doing this, Trump might be slowly but surely nudging himself out the door. Forcing the hands of his cabinet and congress.

Little by little more of the Rs will turn against him. Lots already have, silently. They probably have enough already. If voters go blue in Nov in a big way, the Rs might turn on Trump to save their own party. They'll have no other choice.

Where this op-ed piece originated from is subject to intense speculation. It could have even been planted by the Trump administration themselves to create chaos and convince the base that there is a deep state conspiracy and to energize his supporters in the upcoming mid term elections.
They mentioned this theory on NPR. Trump is deeply concerned about the midterms. It's beginning to look like Democrats will win back the House. If that happens impeachment proceedings are sure to follow. Might as well start getting the Trump base more riled up than they currently are and do some damage control in advance of the November elections.

Couple that with Trump telling his own supporters that if he gets impeached, it's their fault, and may be onto something.

Trump is too dumb to come up with that, and too narcissistic to go along with it, so I don't buy it. Unless it was done by someone under him, without telling him but for those purposes.

which would then support the op/ed's claim that the administration is operating independently of trump.

Obviously It hit a nerve and Trump believes someone on his staff wrote it. He wants it investigated and he’s contemplating polygraph tests.

He could have shrugged and moved along when it was published.

He alone is breathing air into this.

Who cares what anyone said that got published in the NYT?

It was an op-ed piece.

That Trump (and a good chunk of his supporters) want to subvert the 1st amendment to protect Trump's ego speaks VOLUMES about how much they hate this country and the Constitution that shapes our laws.

Well, I can see members of his staff going into a huddle and deciding that it was a plausible gambit without ever telling Trump. It's an interesting theory, but I don't think it's really one of the more likely ones.

The whole thing has driven Trump even crazier than usual if that's possible. Every time he has a meeting with his staff, he'll be looking them over, wondering which one it was that dropped the dime. I wonder if whoever wrote it did so in an attempt to drive Trump right around the bend. The op-ed writer might want to go into the FBI's witness protection program.

But I thought President Two Scoops was totally calm and unconcerned about this op ed. He said so himself. He wouldn’t be lying, would he? That would be so unlike him.
