That said, it's just words, like so many things, and one should be judged on one's actions vs. prayer-like rituals. We are not required to be "patriotic on demand" in America - that's part of the whole point of being a free nation. On the flip side, look at those stupid little American flag lapels every politician has been wearing since I think a bit after 9/11. Does anybody really think that means that they all care about the American people because they have a flag lapel? I hate tacky displays of patriotism that are out of place - all to often, it means the person in question is trying to justify some questionable (or even abhorrent) belief by painting it over with many coats of "mericuh!"

Deeds, not words, are the true judge of how much one loves one's nation and - most importantly - its citizens.
"it's just words"

"Words have MEANINGS.

I guess you thank the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution "are just words".

I guess you think EVER LAW in the land is "it's just words"

Pathetic just pathetic!

A few years ago. It was some kind of formal organization meeting, but not a governmental one.

Nearly every week when I attend my son's Scout meeting. Last year, I said it every day, but that was simply because I was volunteering at the high school during announcements. I like it and find the words, "indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, " particularly moving.

Why are you asking such a random question?

I belong to or have belonged to a number of organizations that pledge at every meeting including the United States Power Squadrons, a VFW post, and the local Fire Department. In a few days the fire dept. will do its annual 9/11 memorial and the pledge is part of the event. I have also participated in the pledge in other events such as a local choral group that does about 3 concerts a year as well as numerous fund raisers for charities that often kick off events with the pledge of allegiance.

I was going to be rude and say you have actually participate in civic organizations that try to improve the country rather than sitting in front of the computer eating donuts and smoking whatever. But I'm really a nice guy so I wont.
