Like Fascism, democracy has different flavors. Our Supreme Court justices are appointed for life, our Senators are elected for six years with no term limits, and our House members are elected for two years with no term limits. Athenians were drafted much like Americans are summoned for jury duty. Athenian males were summoned randomly, and serving for the public good and passing legislation for a term of one year.

Athenians understood human nature much better than Hamilton, Jefferson, or Washington. We as Americans are now going to get a Supreme Court justice who thinks that flaws can be found in every Supreme Court decision made since the nineteen thirties.

We are a Republic. A democracy would've been a bad idea in 1787 that was rejected and it would be a damn bad idea in divided 2018 America.

The real problem is over time the federal government grew too big and too influential. That and too much immigration from too long and now globalized.

All right, we can blame both parties for the size of government and immigration. In recent years as well as 100 years ago the people who really are calling the shots have opened the flood gates to new immigrants when some labor group started to have the upper hand.

We have a situation now where the nominee for the Supreme Court completely lacks the objectivity that would make the Supreme Court the nonpolitical entity that it was supposed to be.

Yes, the federal government has claimed too much power and the states have ceded too much power to it. The original intent of federalism of the Founders has been distorted. Moreover, the courts and the presidency have assumed too much power at the expense of Congress.

Time for some adjustments.

You want to be led, hire a dominatrix. You want to lead, get a dog.
Your system is no better than any other that places your freedom into the hands of a few.

I wouldn't call that superior. Athenian democracy was studied quite deeply by the founders. The reason they didn't do what the Athenians did was because what the Athenians did ended quite terribly. Furthermore it was violent and often lead to public execution of their leaders.

Athenian democracy was Mob Rule. It was brutal and vicious. You might ought to go read some books that are 30 years old or older on the subject. anyone listening to modern college professors are getting some strange stuff.

More people have been slaughtered for "the public good" than any other reason in history.

Apparently you haven't been to Greece. It didn't work out so well. Their major export? Olives.
Currently their major import.........migrants.

Write what you think, but, with all of our flaws.......the is no better country on earth. Nor has their ever been.
You think you know the person being questioned for the Court? If you are so connected why would you be writing here?

More leftist drivel.

Did you just trace Greece's current problems to Athenian democracy? I am - actually kinda impressed.
