Pretty funny. Never Trumpers are screeching about an item already approved and think that Trump should have gone line-by-line through the budget of every division of every department to spot the one item that NeverTrumpers choose to outraged about. Yeah, lotsa luck.

They are also screeching about FEMA people who (gasp!) are unqualified or incompetent, while they ignore the fact that those people were obviously hired and trained sometime during the last 10 years.

NeverTrumpers. They ain't smart.

Thanks for the link.

43K is probably less than the secret service pays to Trump owned properties for golf cart rental per game.

They were approved and purchased during Obama’s administration but because they were installed during Trump’s administration some are blaming Trump and Nikki Haley for the wasteful spending.
OP, do you know the difference between the past and the present? Your guy Trump spends (as in presently) millions of dollars of our money on pointless ego boosting rallies every week. $53,000 is peanuts and it happened (if it even did) years ago. Thread fail.

You Leftist Trump haters will bash him regardless. This is just more evidence. It's amazing that you can somehow turn an Obama action into blaming Trump. You Leftists have turned Trump bashing into an art.
More like a joke - I stop by to get my jollies at the ridiculousness of all their assumptions and how they think they've got something important that will change anyone's mind. It's all school yard antics and they lose.

Most good leftists won’t get past the headline which is, predictably, grossly misleading.

Point went way over your head. For me the point isn’t about the cost of the curtains. My point was about the obvious attempt by the press to make the headline and most of the story sound like Trump/Haley wasted government money on curtains at this price to inflame their base’s already rabid hatred towards Trump even though they know, and acknowledge near the end of their article, that it was an approved purchase by the previous Obama administration.

Here’s the back story on the official residence of the UN Ambassador:

Federal Government has leased a penthouse at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel since 1947 for the UN Ambassador. The lease term was on a rolling 10 year basis. The last known rent was $360,000/ year between 1999-2009.

The Hotel was acquired by Ambang Insurance Group, a Beijing based Insurance, banking and financial service company in 2014. Their intention was/ is to convert the 1,413 key hotel into 350 condos. As such, portions of the hotel were closed for renovation. Amid concerns about security/ spying, the Obama Admin decided to relocate the UN Ambassador residence to a penthouse at the UN plaza, across the street from the UN.

Property values/ rents are inflated primarily due to foreign investors.

Congress approved the relocation. The unit is 5,893 square feet and includes a private elevator and pool. It now houses the UN Abassador’s family; husband, child and dog. It is occasionally used for entertainment.

The rent is $58,000 / month which reportedly is a considerable savings over the lease at the Waldorf Astoria.

I have not been able to find out who owns the unit.

Haley took a 12% pay cut, Governor vs UN Ambassador. Her husband does not have a reported income. They are not wealthy. She had nothing to do with the selection of the property.

Given the position comes with 24/7 Secret Service protection, the official residence could have been located in a less costly neighborhood or in NJ. But that’s not how the Federal Government rolls. It’s curious how some legacy high level federal government positions come with a housing perk while others do not.

The article is about how the author of the article didn't think that the original emphasized enough it was under the Obama administration that the curtain were bought.

And that's what gets posted as controversial and political.

How ridiculous.

The article does not mislead unless you want it to.

It is clear that the curtain were ordered under the Obama administration.

I don't know how you miss it.

AND -- the idea of the article -- that government departments make cut backs citing financial constraints while still spending outrageous amounts in other areas is a universal theme that is not red or blue.

Maybe my math is off.

2009 means that the Obama Administration negotiated the next lease.

$58,000 per month translates to $696,000 per year... up from $396,000 according to what you posted.

I am having a problem with the near doubling of the rent.

You would think Montgomery Brewster (Brewster's Millions movie) was in the White House.
