You genuinely believe that higher education costs are reasonable? And you do realize that many higher education institutions are state run? Are you saying that state universities should no longer exist?
No they are out this world thanks in large part to govt backed student loans and the govt primary skools brainwashing young minds into thinking they wont amount to anything unless they go to a crony college (while amassing incredible non dischargeable debt to obtain a worthless degree)

Even average and rural universities and state run colleges are charging exorbitant amounts for higher education. When I decided to complete my degree it was cheaper for me to go with an out of state nonprofit university than it was for me to go to an in state junior college. And honestly, at this point compared with the work from some of their graduate students in the same field I’m getting infinitely more bang for my buck. As far as price comparison for in state universities, I’ll have saved myself about $20k when all is said and done and none of my in state universities are “crony” colleges or prestigious.
With Democrats now in control of the U.S. House of Representatives, several members of House-led committees are preparing to challenge Department of Education Secretary Besty DeVos on several policies.
POLITICO reports that at least five committees could take DeVos to task next year on some of the more controversial policies enforced by the Dept. of Education.
Among them will be the House education committee where Virginia Democrat Bobby Scott is expected to be named chairman. Scott has been vocal about many of the policies enforced by DeVos, including the secretary's rollback of sexual assault policies on college campuses.
"The proposed rule creates a new process and evidentiary standard that makes it harder for survivors of harassment, abuse, and assault to achieve the justice they deserve," Scott said in a statement after reports of DeVos' policy plans surface. "Campus sexual misconduct is already underreported and those who do come forward are too often denied respect, compassion, and a fair investigation of their claim."
Another opponent, expected to lead the Veterans' Affairs Committee, will be Rep. Mark Takano.
The California Democrat told POLITICO he plans to investigate the effects the reduction of regulations meant to stop misuse of funds from for-profit colleges. Those colleges, Takano said, enroll thousands of veterans each year.
I could be wrong, but I do believe he is arguing for affordable higher education. Developing nations are outpacing developed nations when it come to STEM graduates by a few million. When it comes to STEM education, we are failing.
Imagine if we only required students to study what applied to their degree instead forcing them to load up on electives? Imagine if Universities actually got rid of their dead weight professors instead of forcing our kids to pay for professors who just hang out. Imagine less scholarships for sports and more for academics.
Maybe then higher education might be more affordable.
Not surprising Trump would appoint a crook like Devos since he himself used to operate one of these scam colleges (the laughably named Trump University).

Its up to the borrower/student to research the validity or worthiness of a degree and there no gurantees unless someone puts in writing.

In fact, the full and diverse educations that our students have been getting throughout the last century, is a main factor in the great success our country has experienced in the world.
No what I am saying is universities require electives that have not a thing to do with the major. The student should be allowed the choice. Increase the cost of their education by taking electives or save money and only go for that engineering degree.
Medical doctors are face with the same issue.
