The highly respected Washington Post editorial board said that President Donald Trump is "complicit" with regard to Hurricane Florence, which has already resulted in several deaths.

There is a long and interesting history of interplay between storms and politics. Historian G.L. Kittredge noted in his book Witchcraft in Old and New England that in 17th century Maryland, a "little old woman" was thrown into the sea and drowned by colonists. She was suspected of witchcraft, and so was blamed for a particularly violent storm.

Chicago mayor Michael Bilandic, who succeeded Richard J. "Boss" Daley, was booted from office largely due to an historic snowstorm. He was not blamed for the storm, but for failing to clear the streets. A similar thing happened here in Seattle to Mayor Greg Nickels, who ironically was from Chicago, and should have known better.

And we're all familiar with the sagas of Hurricane Katrina, handling of which was botched by George W. Bush, and of Sandy, which President Obama handled so well that Gov. Chris Christie (R, NJ) gave him a big hug.

The WAPO, in its editorial, cites several scientific experts in concluding that Trump is "complicit." If so, would that not be impeachable? Normally I am not a fan of impeachment conspiracy theories, but in this case it seems there could be something there.

Well, we had a racist eclipse last year... I guess this shouldn't be surprising.

Oh good grief! The highly respected editorial board of the WP? Complicit in a hurricane that resulted in deaths when people refuse to evacuate? Geesh!
