Normally I'd be the first person to put my boot up a shoplifter's ass, but you have to look at the big picture here. Look at that neighborhood. These are people who live from foodstamp day to foodstamp day and welfare check to welfare check. A storm hits and they'll have zero preparedness and if there's any disruption in services they get they're starving in a few days. So they're going to find food where they can and turn on each other. If a business owner defends his business and offs a few, then he's instantly hated by the community and he's out of business. Now if they were to break into someone's home, then shoot them and let them be gator bait.
Cops are not paid to protect businesses or people. They're there to arrest those who break the law within their means to do so. 4 cops can't stop 100 people from looting a store.
I understand that but right is right and wrong is wrong - Stealing is wrong whether there is a hurricane or not.
Looting is wrong. It’s stealing. It’s a crime, but quit acting like this is some bigger picture problem or symptom of modern society. Stuff like this has been happening throughout recorded history.
Probably the only real solution for these savages is to load all inventory into elevated shipping containers and chain them shut. Just leave the doors unlocked for these animals to find nothing to steal.

Funny how an Asian dude with a gun did just fine in LA riots. These low life types weren't stealing food it was mostly nikes and booze. during the previous riots. Looks like the same here. They are predatory cannibals circling their hood just waiting for someone to appear weak and pounce on them.
What stuff were they stealing? Bottled water, food, flashlight batteries etc. that people would understandably need in a hurricane? Wouldn't make it any more legal, but at least understandable.
Or were they taking hairbands, toys, soda, sunglasses and other "non-essentials"?
Dollar Stores have only super-cheap merchandise, right? Nothing costs more than a dollar, hence the name. So there were probably no emergency radios available, or generators, or wood for boarding up windows etc. Also no booze, Nikes, TVs, cameras or cell phones, right?

Dollar stores do sell things for more than a dollar. It’s still cheap crap but they have some cell phones, etc.

lol Dont be silly. People on food stamps or welfare dont live day to day food wise. They go to the store and get the food they need just like those who use cash and they dont get just 2 or 3 days worth of food at a time.
