A proposal that would make Los Angeles the largest city in the U.S. to ban the sale of fur products advanced in the City Council on Tuesday.
The council voted unanimously to direct the city attorney to draft an ordinance that will prohibit the manufacture and sale of fur products. The ordinance must be presented to the council at a future date for final approval.
No fur at all? What about cow skin rugs? What about shearling coats? No rabbit fur either? That's ridiculous.
I could see banning exotic animal skin products from wild and/or endangered animals, but not fur products from domesticated animals. We eat beef and dairy products, so cow skins should be fine. Shearling comes from sheep. Rabbits are raised for their meat and skin.
Next, will leather products be banned too? That's just animal skins without the fur.
What will the resulting proliferation faux fur products do to the environment?
