Once again I never said their economic system was great, or that I liked their central government, what I did say was that Cuba has a very extensive democratic political structure at the local level that is far superior to what you usually see in the western world. Democracy that spreads to economic institutions and societal ones gives the people more say in how their communities operate.
And as far as poverty goes, you can’t forget the crippling US sanctions that have left it out of the global supply chain.
I'm guessing most people just aren't that interested in getting involved in politics/economics at the local or national level.
I'm certainly not - I've got my own dreams to follow, and I'm happy to leave all that stuff to politicians and economists.
If Cubans are free to follow their dreams, then they're doing alright.
Why don't YOU go there and find out since you think it's such a paradise. Please, tell the United States that you no longer want to be a citizen of the U.S. and would like to move to Cuba because you think their government is better.
Come back, (if you can), in 10 years and tell us all again how great it was.
Sure it's great as long as you have a job and you never criticize anyone in power. Many would probably be thrown in jail for writing many of the topics in this thread.
I know most of you listen to a lot of propaganda on Cuba and think the US needs to economically oppress the island until they gain ‘freedom’.
But in a lot of ways Cuba is fewer than we are, and a lot of its poor infrastructure and technology comes from the United States keeping Cuba out of the global supply chain.

In Cuba although technically you do not have to vote 97% do because sanctions if they do not. And is all really just a joke because their is only one political party. So there is no real getting involved in politics since the results will always be the same. Every time Castro's party gets all the votes.
