I suspect Manchin will now vote yes since the Ds can no longer stop the confirmation.

As for Collins, she just triggered a $2 million money bomb against her opponent in the next election. She's probably toast. Terrible decision by Collins and I expect the voters in Maine will make her pay for it.
Thus, why Representative Democracies don't work. Party over country.

Is it possible that Dr. Ford really is a little weak pawn being used by this McClean?
Nice to see some independent thought.

This is really a double or maybe triple thread. One, the mystery of the situation. And here it's refreshing to have some actually try to think through various scenarios instead of repeating often distorted or outright fabricated stuff.

Other layers include political polarization (more generally and of the court specifically, which actually themselves deserve separate consideration) ... social changes.

Folks tend to take a position on one aspect of this mess then use that concern to judge all other aspects. More, this particular situation isn't always the best example of their concern.

Red herrings are raised, for example the allegation that anyone taking a position that doesn't match theirs really wants all women believed under any circumstances. That is both absolute nonsense plus not accurate for I certainly don't remember that assertion (although I admittedly haven't read every thread post).

Interesting process but then also disturbing.

Your comment makes no sense. If the voters disagree with her decision then they should get rid of her. That is a representative democracy working. People vote for the leaders they feel will best represent them.

Hello, Justice Kavanaugh
Yep, her vote seals it. Manchin is now free to vote yes also.

Dang, Collins is quite informed on the details of the court cases. She's actually rather impressive.

They should make some arrangement to make his vote count!

I'm sure if one of the Democrats had a nail appointment, they would give her an Absentee Ballot!

Collins is giving Kavanaugh a heck of a defense right now. She is doing a better job of arguing his case than a lot of people who outright supported him.
