North America isn't just the United States. So more parts will be made in Mexico and they will pay slightly higher wages to Mexicans.

How exactly does this help the United States?

$16.00 per hour is slightly higher? Which is what a percentage of those jobs will now need to pay in Mexico.

It’s astronomically higher and if you don’t understand how that’s good for the US I can’t help you.

It’s a disincentive for companies looking at moving to Mexico.

Direct quote from WAPO analysis for credit:

While many economists think these new rules will help some North American workers, they also warn that some small cars may no longer be made in North America because they would be too expensive under the new requirements. There are also concerns that automakers might not make as many cars in North America to export to China and elsewhere overseas because costs would be higher in the USMCA region than making the vehicles in Asia.

Well that's what's behind their usurping the South China Sea international waters and building missile bases there.

They already snuck a sub up on the California coast and launched a missile just to prove they could defeat our SONUS network (which isn't a big surprise since the Chinese our government let in here stole all the tech for the system many years ago).

What we SHOULD have done is nuked their nuclear program before they moved it underground. Now its impenetrable.

Exactly this. Trade war with the number one consumer country in the world is suicide.

Labor rates are a very small part of the reason stuff is made elsewhere. So small it's not even really a big thing. There are much bigger reasons to move.

Do you know how averages work? Average wages are easily skewed. I'll show you.

If I offer you a job where the average wage is 100k might you be interested?

What if I tell you the company has 10 workers?

What if I tell you one worker makes 1m a year?

No so good it's it? Averages suck as a metric on their own.

When negotiating a contract in business one doesn't want one side to fold, you want a contract that allows both or all parties to win. We shouldn't want Canada or Mexico to feel like they are folding. We should all be able to agree to a new contract and all be happy with that said contract, otherwise problems are surely to follow. If Canada really feels like they folded and getting a bad deal, what do you think will happen in the future when they have a chance to do the same to us. That will create a spiral of bad relations. Canada could start pivoting away from American reliance and we as Americans, shouldn't want that. We live in a global economy, and any country can trade with anyone else.
