I think that the last appointed justice that defied his President was David Souter, who was a moderate justice. Before that, there was Earl Warren who was thought to be someone who would rule against school racial integration, but then ruled the opposite. Ever since Souter, every appointed justice has ruled EXACTLY the way that the appointing POTUS had expected- either hard right or hard left. And please don't bring up Justice Kennedy. With the exception of gay rights, he has firmly held strongly to his conservative Republican partisanship (Bush v Gore, Citizens United) What has happened?
What happened? Kagan and Sotomayor. Two worst appointments of all time. As soon as Aunt Ruthie goes to her final reward, and we can replace her with a proper judge who well defend the constitution, then we can figure out a way to impeach Kagan and Sotomayor. Neither should have ever been appointed. At that point we will have a moderate SOTUS that doesn't try to legislate from the bench.
His wife and daughters have been getting death threats since the hearings started, the kids have been given 24/7 SS protection due to the threats of violence against them. He's already had to give up his teaching gig and people have suggested that he shouldn't be allowed to coach kids in basketball again. He'll never be able to go to dinner or walk down a street again without the fear of some left winger nut job attacking him, some protest popping up and running his family off or something like that.

Well, there are people currently accusing him of being a sexual predator, rapist and even a pedophile on national TV with zero evidence of either crime.
