While the Southern Baptists tend to be reliably republican, they do not represent a majority of the base by any means! I can tell you that there are a lot of Republicans that are not religious in the least!

(anonymous poll to come)
Is short-sighted and/or self-serving sheeples an option?

By continuing to stand with the GOP and Trump the opposition is enabling the following, to name just a few:

- polluting the environment
- rolling back women's/LGBTQ/minority/employee rights
- promoting big corporate over employee/consumer interests
- voter suppression
- sexual assault
- ruining your healthcare coverage
- etc.

We no longer have a democracy anymore once the GOP takes over all three branches of the gov't. Everyone who thinks that's ok should be very concerned because it WILL impact you when you lose your social security, healthcare, job and rights as a citizen. It's NEVER ok to have one party control all three branches of the gov't.

The opposition is the progressive left and the progressive right. They are the ememies of freedom.

I view principled conservatives as countrymen who are the "loyal opposition."

I view Trumpism and its followers as countrymen who have fallen ill to a poisonous brand of fascism. I hope they get better soon, see the error of their ways, and return to being respectable conservatives once again. Trumpism is a stain on this country.

Authoritarian is probably a better term for it than progressive.

Right now the GOP is far more authoritarian than the Democrats. It hasn't always been that way but that's how it is in the Trump era.

I'd be for a peaceful divorce as long as there was a grace period for people to move to the country that best suits their ideology.

Though, the Christian Right is aging and is in decline and if we can just make it another 20 years I think we can start to heal a lot of our divisions.

You are all still my countrymen. I may not agree with what you all have to say, but I would defend to the death your right to say it.

And there are plenty of people who vote Republican and who are Christian to the core yet have extremely different views than Southern Baptists. I'd guess that Episcopalians, Methodists, Lutherans and Presbyterians (at least the mainline versions of all of those) are generally pretty open to being pro-choice, same-gender marriage, #MeToo, etc. If they aren't pro-choice/etc., then they share the pews with a lot of people who are, so they probably don't push strongly against those things.

Totally wrong again, as usual, with your posts. You've been successfully brainwashed by some right wing talking head you saw on FOX. Let's see... the "extreme left" Democratic Party's leader, Nancy Pelosi, supports countless wars and foreign entanglement, astronomical defense spending, and draconian mass surveillance. She supports free trade deals like NAFTA, TPP, Fast Track, etc. She supports big pharma, health care industry profiteering, and remains in strict opposition to single-payer universal healthcare. She supports financial industry looting, TARP, and more economic disparity.

Don't believe me? Get it straight from the donkey's mouth.

My take....the liberal/progressive/socialist/anarchic are attempting a coup. You can see the attempt every day in their rage with their screaming violence toward the rest of American that doesn't agree with them or their tactics.
